  1. Hey guys, Hagen (Family Wagon) and I are looking at putting together a group buy of Beisan Vanos kits in the next couple of weeks. I'm guessing something that's been done a number of times before! We're both after e36 single vanos kits, plus rattle kits. Anyone keen? I understand there's a 4 for 3 deal available. Plus savings on shipping (although if the order gets big we might get slammed for GST). Expressions of interest here, or PM me if you prefer. I'm also looking at getting some braided lines through Turner Motorsport, but that's a different story. :-) James
  2. Yeah welcome Mark... I don't check this forum often enough! I'm a '94 M3 owner. Just like Richard's (same colour too) but a lot rougher around the edges by the look. Actually Richard, I don't know if we've met. Looking forward to getting the two cars together at some point. I live in Ellerslie so same-ish neck of the woods. I'm a bit of a noob so don't know how much I can help technically (or at least whenever I go to club meetings people say lots of technical things I don't understand). I seem to be one of the more active guys at track days though, so be cool if we could get some more e36s out to Hampton and Puke this year. James
  3. Sorry for the delayed response here, but the Beisan Systems kit has only just come on my radar and I'm considering getting it and doing it myself.   4. I think it was me who told you that Jules. The banana was a couple of cars in front of me. He got caught up in that little stream of water across the exit of the sweeper. Tried to hold the drift but the car kept rotating past the point of no return and he did (what looked like) a very slow and graceful slide off the right hand side of the track. It kicked a little to the left again and he put his front right quarter into the tyres. I think if he'd turned into the skid instead of trying to drift it, he would've been okay. Most cars (without traction control!) were barely doing 90 km/hr around the sweeper, and he wasn't any faster than the rest. All in all, an excellent event and I'm looking forward to the next one! Don't care if it's raining like that again... you learn a lot about your driving in those conditions. James :-)
  5. Hi all, After finding my parcel tray sound insulation was waterlogged and falling to bits, I'm looking to replace it. Mine's an M3, but I'm pretty sure any E36 coupe should fit. Must be good condition though. I'm also after a pair of the top end Hi-Fi rear speakers.   6. Hi all, Just thought I'd share my recent experience pulling the half of my interior apart to try and find a water leak. I mentioned it to a few dudes at the coffee meet on Sunday, so this finishes the story off! Sorry I didn't take any photos, but I haven't put everything back together yet so there's still time! - A week ago I pulled out my rear seat bolster and found about a litre of standing water, and the rear seat foam completely soaked. - I initially thought it might be the rear light issue I'd read about on the forum (water from the roof gutters runs in behind the tail light clusters, pools in the boot then runs forward under the seat when braking), but I checked under the boot lining and it was dry as a bone. - On Monday night I set about trying to find the leak. Got the kids to hose the car while I poked around. After 5 minutes of hosing nothing was showing up, so I gave up and sent the kids inside. - THEN... I noticed a steady stream of water starting to trickle down behind the side bolster of the right rear seat. Pulled all that out and traced it up to the rear side window. That's when the full extent became clear. (Dum dum dummmm...!) - The window seal, C pillar trim, rear parcel tray, the sound insulation undereath and the rear speaker cluster... all wet. I probably should have noticed this beforehand, but what can I say... I'm a bit thick. Then I noticed the roof lining - at the point where it meets the top of the C pillar trim. It was soaked, and when I dried it by compressing it with a towel, it soaked up again. Aha! - I very carefully started pulling that corner of roof lining down (had to take off the roof hand-rail thingy to enable enough movement), wincing at the sound of ripping adhesive I was getting and managed to get a peek up above the lining. - There's a sunroof drain up there (one of 4 I believe). That rear part of the sunroof unit is molded plastic and there's a little spout that is supposed to have a rubber hose (that feeds down into the C pillar) plugged onto it. My rubber hose was quite blatantly sitting NEXT to the spout. I reattached the hose and called it a night. I'm still to do another hose test, but it has been raining the last couple of days (my car ain't garaged) and no pooled water. I may well chuck a cable tie up there to make extra sure the blighter stays attached. I'll also check the one on the other side. Last summer I had my sagging roof lining replaced on the (fairly) cheap by a guy who works out of his garage in Weymouth. I can't help wondering if he's the one who detached the hose, inadvertently or not. The amount and state of the water I found suggests it hadn't been sitting there for years and years. So there we have it... a little bit long winded for such a simple issue, but without pictures I've had to use a thousand words. Anyone else had something similar? I'll now be looking for new sound insulation for the parcel tray, cause it's waterlogged and all cracking and generally poked. A new one is almost $500 from BMW, so stay tuned for my post in the want-to-buy section! James

  8. Hi all, I'm after a pair of OEM rear springs for my car. Happy to do a straight swap for my lowered ones, which are causing my track tyres to rub on the guards. You can see how the car sits in my signature below. Will post photos of the springs themselves if anyone's interested. James
  9. Sounds good Suresh! It's gonna be a great summer. I'm extra careful around Puke. I have little ego when it comes to this sort of thing, so have no problems with staying at a safe speed. And no stopwatch!

  11. It's just a Pukekohe track open day. They run them every few weekends. $110 and a helmet (I don't think they even require a racing suit) and the track is yours. I guess I probably could've put it forward as a Bimmersport meet, but a) this part of the forum tends to be pretty quiet so I'm not sure how many are keen trackers, and b ) I'm pretty new and haven't organised anything before! And c) it's only a week's notice. James
  12. Hi guys, I'm taking the M3 to a track day session at Pukekohe next Saturday 25th. It'll be my second time at Puke and the first outing for my track day tyres! . I'd be very happy to see any bimmersport peeps there. They allow passengers (who bring a helmet) so if you're keen enough you can ride shotgun. My mate will also be bringing along his 635csi to blow out cobwebs following 6 years kept up in a shipping container. Should be a fun day! James

  14. Yeah, I've been researching all of that. Usually the max angle is -20 degrees, but that's for a fixed harness. Apparently, because Schroth belts fix to the factory fittings then the car's tensioners etc. all still work so they can get away with a greater angle. A harness bar would be my next option, but that wouldn't work with the Quick Fit belt so I'd be looking at a standard harness, proper mounting points and probably a race seat. Maybe I should think about a race seat anyway (because I could do with some extra headroom in there!)... but I'll get answers from Schroth first. This is all interesting stuff!
  15. Thanks for the replies guys. Glad to hear a first hand account too... although jeez Jason, glad you're alright! A 60kph head-on is pretty serious! The 2 inch belt thing is interesting. Schroth say it fits better with our anatomy (clavicle width or something) but I guess with a reduced surface area it could result in more soft tissue damage. My main concern is that my shoulders sit about 5cm higher than my seat back. I know this is a risk in a conventional harness due to downward compression of the spine, but the Schroth ASM harnesses seem to do several things differently so I've emailed them directly to ask if that's okay. Will let you know what they say.

Hi guys, Does anyone have experience with the Schroth Quick Fit Pro harness system? http://www.schrothracing.com/tuning/quick-fit-pro/qfp-bmw I know it's only a 4-point harness, but their anti-sub system gets good reviews. Seems like a 5th point can be added, but I'm not sure how that would work with standard seats. Overall, it seems to me to be a good value ($300) upgrade that enables the use of a HANS device. Anyone used one... or better yet... have one to sell? James
  17. I dunno man, I'm just going with the advice I was given (by a v. reliable source). I think if I started trying to decide on some wheels from scratch I'd never be able to make a decision! Anyways, I've done the deal with Glenn (E30-323ti) so I'm stuck with it now. Thanks all for your input. I've been looking for these on TradeMe for a couple of months... but 3 days on bimmersport and BAM... job done. :-)
  18. Thanks for the replies guys. For some reason, I'm not getting notifications so only just saw them now! Man these wheel codes are confusing. Googling the options you've mentioned it seems that RX204s are the same as the Style 42 1-piece wheels, and the RS740, RS742 and RS743 are the same as the Style 42 2-piece wheels, but with different offsets..? Does that sound right? Maybe the only difference is whether they have a BMW or BBS centre cap? Glen, I'm interested in finding out more about your RX204s. I think they're the ones I was told to look out for. I posted up the photo of the 2-piece wheels just cause they look cooler..! PM me an offer... I'm in Auckland though so I'd have to price up shipping too. Jeff, are you saying you have an RS742/743 set for sale..? James
  19. Hey Jayden, I've still got the aftermarket rear section that came with my car - but bought and installed that oem rear section from your mate Nick. It's not branded but has a y-intersection that combines the two pipes into one pretty early on, with a fairly small rear muffler and a 1-into-2 tip. There's a small (pea-sized) hole at the y-intersection which would need patching. I'd be happy if I got a hundy-and-a-half for it. Can send photos if you're interested. James
  20. Hi guys, I've bought some Toyo R888s for the track and need some rims for them. Heard excellent things about the Style 42s (picture below) so looking to see if there are any floating around out there. I understand the sizes I need are four 17x7.5" with ET 35-45 offset, or I'm happy to go staggered with 17x8.5", ET 38 on the rear. Thanks in advance. James.
