  1. Mine is a 4cyl too. 318i. I have the manual too but didn't think to check!
  2. How can I tell by how much my E36 has been lowered? The previous owner put Dobi springs in the car but cannot remember the specifications. I have made some measurements which hopefully member on here could compare to their cars: 325mm center of the FRONT wheel to the underside of the outer edge of the guard 260mm center of the REAR wheel to the underside of the outer edge of the guard 115mm bottom of the sill immediately after the FRONT wheel 115mm bottom of the sill immediately before the REAR wheel Thanks in advance
  3. Non adjustable dampening wise? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  4. I gathered some more quotes today for KYBs rather than Monroes. There was only $35 in it between Stocks, Mag & Turbo, and Supercheap with Stocks and M&T @$349ea Front. But then Stocks said they have Konis for $313ea... Looks like I will be going ahead and buying some Konis! Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  5. unnecessary really, not too fussed. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  6. KYB's seem to be the way to go Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  7. I started this thread looking for help. Some helpful people have informed me I must buy a new steering wheel and even offered me a direct replacement. They have been helpful, you have not. The leather idea is only a quick fix as the wof was due monday. You don't have to agree with it. I will look to replace it later. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  8. Look, I don't see how it's any of your concern. There are a lot of e36s that didn't even come with an airbag so mine effectively is now the same. Mid 80's Corolla never had them either....My shocks will be replaced within a fortnight also. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  9. I've thought about colour-matching the front and rear bumpers. Not the complete bumper but leave the top+bottom grey. I believe that was a factory option as I see plenty around like that. The film over the headlights made it through a wof, but I might take it off and tint the full beam lens instead. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  10. Thankyou for the replies. So far, I have gathered quotes from three garages. Monroe Reflex Front $495 pair Rear $240 Pair Monroe GT Front $520 pair Monroe ?? Front $560 pair I would prefer to buy locally because I don't want to muck about with shipping and duty tax crap. Are Monroes really that bad? They seem reasonably priced. As I said before, the car will never see a track, only the occasional 'spirited' drive on a back road perhaps. Mostly it will just be driving to work. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  11. Thanks I'm pleased with how it looks
  12. So my 318i just failed it's wof on leaking front shocks. I'm currently weighing up the options of: 1. Replace front shocks only 2. Replace all four shocks 3. Install Coilovers Is replacing the front shocks only a good idea? How much should a set cost? Do I really need coilovers? I like to have my car low (currently on Dobi springs) but I wouldn't like it much lower as I need to get it on/off my driveway. The car will not be taken to the track as it's only a 318i. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Adam
  13. Hi all. I'm Adam, born in the UK, now living in Auckland. I'm new to BMWs. My first car, actually a van, was a '90 Mitsi L300, after that came a '97 VW Golf GTI. It is a NZ New '94 318i Manual Sedan in Morea Green, in poverty spec as it has almost no options, which I actually dig about this car! Full Service History from Jerry Clayton's right up till my friend bought it. The colour is fantastic and you don't see many others wearing this paint. I'm pleased to say it is relatively tidy and hasn't travelled my kms (108,000). It was lowered by the previous owner on Dobi springs and the headlights were tinted yellow, I have since added AZEV Type A's and roof racks. I have also replaced the sagging headlining. Here is a photo from when I first bought it: And this is how it looks now: She goes alright despite being only a 1800cc, I expected worse speed-wise to be honest being quite a big car. It is very economical though, sips the gas. I plan to sort out the sagging door cards, replace the shot factory speakers and a suspension overhaul is on the cards. I might change the wheels too. No doubt I will be on here a lot seeking help, advice and ideas (both good and bad). Adam
  14. Good news! I did such a fantastic job of covering up the airbag light that they didn't even know it was there let alone on! Here's a pic: Bad news! Failed the wof due to leaking front shocks! I'm running Dobi lowering springs on standard shocks (knew they wouldn't last long..). Should I replace the shocks or go all out and install coilovers? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks Brent. I'll let you know how the wof goes. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  16. I've stuck a piece of leather over the light. In my mind that's solved the problem. If the wof guys miss it then great, if they spot it then I guess I'm on the look out for a new steering wheel. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  17. Google seems to indicate HellBM is located in Silverdale.. Brent, my car is 1994. Any other place on the Shore? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  18. Cheers. I thought this would be the case. I will do that tomorrow. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  19. Also, I should mention I'm on the North Shore. Birkenhead area. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  20. Hi, the airbag light on my sports steering wheel has been on for ~5 months and with wof time fast approaching it's about time to get it sorted. As stated above, it the Sports Steering Wheel type. Same as below: (Sample photo) What are my options here? Get fault codes scanned? New wheel? I'd prefer to keep this wheel as it looks better than those massive 4 spokes.. Thanks in advance Adam Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
