Out of curiosity, when you buy a used BMW, what's the first things you do in the way of preventative maintenance (outside of your standard oil change/filter change).

Anyone know of any decent OEM VANOS solenoids for the N54 that aren’t utter crap? I’ve heard the genuine ones aren’t so great either. There’s a few on TradeMe but am a bit reluctant.
Cheers lads

Just now, Braydon said:heh I was actually just thinking this myself the other day. I quite dislike the bulky EToll mirror, and was wondering about swapping to either a normal one, that still has auto-dipping, or the one with the buttons (Not that I have a need for those yet).
Haven't done any research yet though.Keep me in the loop with your research, I'd go a standard one if the buttons wouldn't work with my gate remote!

Does anyone know if its possible/easy to swap the japanese import rear view mirror on a 1 series for a UK/European one so you can take advantage of the programmable gate/garage door buttons? Feels sort of useless having the Japanese toll gate version with no purpose.

Hi team
My most recent buy, its a Japanese imported (first NZ owner) 2009 BMW 135i M-Sport with 95k on the clock. Completely stock.
Not many plans for it, fix up the sh*t headlights, rear boot lip spoiler, maybe a Stage 1 MHD tune and an aluminium charge pipe. Wanting to keep it standard and reliable (lol).

I don't suppose anyone has a OBD2 adapter in Auckland they'd let me borrow for an afternoon?
-
Has anyone flashed a MHD Stage 1 tune on a stock N54 running 98 octane? What performance gains did you actually get? Is it safe to do so without an upgraded FMIC? Does the exhaust burble sound any good on a stock exhaust? Cheers!

My brother works in Japanese vehicle importation and wholesale and he's said cars he could get for 16k landed are going for 30k+ in Japan.

I had never changed one before buying my previous 130i, and have now done my second on my current N54.
Youtube is your friend, allow about NZ$600 plus freight from FCP Euro for Pump, Thermostat and bolts.
FCP also have a video archive for jobs like this.
Interesting I've not looked at FCP before. Did you go for VDO or genuine BMW for the pump?

Hi team I'm on the hunt for a good condition, well looked after E82 135i M Sport, Pre-LCI or LCI, doesn't matter. Ideally in Auckland.
Anything out there?

Hi team, I've read in a few places you can expand the radio to NZ station ranges yourself through the iDrive system on a E82 135i? Is this correct or does it need a part and/or an engineer to sort? If so how much should I expect to pay?
Many thanks

Bellars Motor Works or BMWorkshop (Grey Lynn or Botany). Unsure of cost though someone else may be of use there.

Hi gang
Looking to purchase a fresh jap import 135i M-Sport and was looking to book it into a BMW specialist for a prepurchase inspection. I just rang Bellars Motor Works and they want $340+GST for it? Seems steep! Has anyone had one done by them? Was it worth the coin?
Any other good cheaper options on the North Shore?
Cheers
