  1. Didn't think this warranted a new thread so...

    I'm keen to do an M20B20 to M20B25 swap for my E30 with my old man, however myself having never done an engine swap before, and having limited mechanical knowledge am wondering if its a job someone such as myself could just jump into?

    I'm aware apart from engine ancillaries its just a plug and play kind of job, roughly..?

    I've got access to all of my old mans tools, and his time during weekends, just no specialist tools like Clutch alignment or Engine Hoists.

    I've done a fair amount of research, am aware of the E30zone guide, but if there are any others that would be amazing as well.

    I also have "most of" the haynes manual, apart from sections 7 and 8 which are Transmission chapters.

    So how realistic is it? I have my partners car to drive during the entire time, as she is away on holiday for summer, so time is not an issue at all.


  2. Sorry to bother all the bimmerheads with such a basic question but I'm a little bit confused after much research on R3v, Bimmersport/Forums and E30Zone, and i'm looking for a bit of clarification (spoon feeding)

    I'm looking to do the simple m20b20 to m20b25 swap, easy enough right, plug and play. However the E30Zone wiki has me a bit confused on my parts list.

    Assuming My car is m20b20 1989 FL and the donor is M20B25 1989 FL too, is my parts list correct as follows

    Full Engine -

    ECU

    Injectors

    Intake Manifold

    Throttle Body

    AFM

    Exhaust

    I'm assuming my Getrag 240 and 4.1.1 Diff will work perfectly fine with the B25 swap, although might be a bit high revv happy?

    Next part confuses me

    I'm assuming that from the list I wont need the following

    Engine Mounts

    Cooling system

    Gearbox Mounts

    Loom

    Alternator

    Starter motor / flywheel

  3. How much would you be willing to sell the rest of the body for if you sold your manual running gear?

    Asking as I'm really only after the interior to put into mine, which lacks a lot of parts and a roughly full car would make it much easier job than buying everything off wrecked cars.

    OR If you don't get any bites on either offers and you want to seperate it and keep your manual conversion to sell seperately ill gladly take the rest of the body off you, or atleast interior wise, I'm not after any mechanical or running gear.

  4. Over the past few months my E30 320i has begun to chirp a little.

    It started out minor but has grown a bit louder recently and is starting to concern me.

    It doesn't occur during startup and only begins after giving it a few revs, it usually takes until the end of my driveway to begin chirping at me. Its intermittent, kind of in sync with the IDLE, however if you give it just a little revs it disappears. To me, it sounds like it must be coming from the alternator.

    After driving for +/- 10 minutes as the engine properly warms up it fades away and all seems well.

    The power steering and alternator belts appear to be visually fine, they seem to be tensioned and have no visual cracks on them.

    One point of concern is that my power steering reservoir is seeping / slow leak down the hoses, which i'll be needing to replace in the near future, however I don't think its related to the noise occurring as no oil is getting on the belts as far as i can see / feel.

    Any help would be appreciated,

  5. Mostly after the rubber seals now, I've decided ill cut a hole for the winders that I already have and put a blank in for the electric window switch.

    I was able to get some door pop snaps from Super Cheap / Repco and find gromets / screws that fit

    So if anyone has the rubber door to window seals that would be Primo, cause that wind noise coupled with the noisy as F*** exhaust gets a bit annoying when cruising at 100KM+


  6. I'm after a set of E30 Door cards with manual window winders.

    I bought a set the other day however every single snap / pop rivet was broken, it didn't have the rubber seals between door car / window, and not a single screw or extra piece, rather disappointed and ripped off.

    So hopefully on here ill be able to find someone who can actually provide proper door cards as the interior of my car is fully stripped and I'm looking to put it all back together, but that means i need all the parts, not just the vinyl / fabric cover.

    Located in Christchurch, but obviously I don't mind paying shipping at all.

  7. I'm hoping to run a different setup on my e30 in the future once Christmas time comes around and I feel like doing the research well in advance.

    I'm looking at a setup for an e30 of

    16x8

    et +20

    Wrapped in 225/45/16

    I'm just wondering if anyone has done this setup and has pictures etc? I don't want to run stretch 205s etc as I want a bit of meat, hence the higher offset over et 0

    What is availability for tyres in that range like? I've had a bit of a look online, but that's rather limited due to shitty websites etc, are they still common enough size that it won't be a struggle to find?

  8. Hey guys, I've got a set of 4 Advanti SA11's, I'm not looking to sell them at this point. But, none of which have been curbed at all in their lifetime, and with a good clean could probably look as good as new, they're in Gun Metal grey.

    While they are good looking lightweight set of wheels, I'd much prefer something with more dish, and should future plans allow when new tyres are in need I am thinking of replacing them, the problem is I have no idea what they are worth.

    Heres a pic for reference, best i could do at this time, might update tomorrow with better ones.
