  1. Here's a pic of the relays, there's also a red wire that you can see poking out at the top that has been cut so I need to look at that.
  2. Na, that's the thing... It's on as soon as the terminals are connected, key off... I don't recall the old setup from the m20b20 so I don't really know, my mate suggested there may be some kinda relay which made sense but we were just guessing... The m52 loom does have 2 relays on it but cos I never saw it connected to anything when I bought it, I have no idea what they are for and I can't really find anything online that has any info about that specifically...
  3. Hey guys, I've now made an amatuer mistake.... When i sold the old m20b20 motor out of my E30, i got rid of the entire loom as well and forgot (didn't know) i'd need to relay box that attaches near left front suspension strut for the DME and the fuel pump. I went to start it on Saturday and realised my fuel pump was turned on as soon as i attached the battery, i knew at this point something was up, i turned it over anyway and did nothing at all so i did a little research and it appears i am missing that relay box which i should've kept. Please let me know if anyone has one they can sell me, i understand it has 3 relays, can anyone tell me if i need all 3 or just the main DME and fuel pump one? i am assuming this is my problem... PM me Darren

  5. Hey guys Am looking for another 3 door cards like this, please let me know if anyone has any, must be in really good condition.
  6. Looks great, in hindsight i wish i actually took some time to make one like yours and use the original cross member. I made a new one to suit but if i did what you did, i'd have less hassle with warrants... Will see how we go...
  7. Hey guys A friend of mine wants me to head up to Nelson in Feb for a car show (he painted my car originally) and has offered to respray it before the show for me, so i thought it would be a good idea to get a front kit for it whilst we are at it. My question is, i want to buy something already in NZ, i cant be arsed importing anything so what are my options for a 1990 facelift E30 and who are the people to talk to? I want a nice fitting kit, not a piece of sh*t, i know there are a few crap kits out there but i wanna get this right from the outset, please fire away with your suggestions.. Thanks
  8. i didnt know that! Mine was a NZ new factory 5spd so it is the box that was in it. Yeah, everyone comments on the colour too, i'd like some nice black interior as it's factory blue colour... That will be the next mission.
  9. I just used standard 240 5spd, am just at the point now where i have to do something about the trans xmember. it leans the engine/box over around 15 degrees from where it usually is so the standard xmember dont work, im going to custom make one to how i want it. Its relatively straight forward, but just do ya research and read up on everything, theres not a lot custom fabrication needed that you can do yourself or pretty cheaply.
  10. That included balancing as well...
  11. MS Coombes in Christchurch, they only took a kilo off the rear so it weighs 7kg now. Cost me $90 +GST, i could've removed more but meant setting it up on the rotary table and just cost more money to get another 500 grams if i'm lucky so i didn't bother. There's quite a bit of material you can remove off the starter motor side which is just what i did. Clutch side, they just faced it off.... Engine/starter motor side...
  12. Hey people Thought i'd post some pics of the transplant, pretty happy with how it all went, no major dramas really... Here's the car... Engine before... New motor... M50 Inlet manifold conversion... E36 steering rack... Cleaned up the engine bay, added a VW Golf booster and modified the steering knuckle... New motor in... Lightened the flywheel, new steering arms and tie rod ends, replaces the gearbox and engine mounts, new centre prop bearing and flex coupling, new wheel bearings, new brakes, pads and rotors, new front and rear shocks and replaced the radiator with a 318ti. New exhaust system next week and sort out the ECU and she'll be right trev....
  13. I have an E36 radiator for sale, in good condition. PM me if youre interested.
  14. I've been working on my steering rack conversion today. I did mine slightly differently and my hoses lined up much nicer than this tut so im thinking i might have a different rack, mine was from a 96 E36 and one of the hoses just needed to have the banjo bolt removed to go up to the M52 power steering pump as the inlet from the PS resevoir is not banjo like the M50. I removed the rubber flex bushing as i had to actually shorten my knuckle quite a bit. I removed the step in the centering shaft so i can bolt the 2 sections up directly to each other. I am getting high tensile bolts, wahers etc tomorrow and bolting it all up to the rack tomorrow and getting some new E36 tie rods.
  15. I have a power steering rack assembly, fluid resevoir tie rod ends and steering rack ends for sale. This has just been removed from the vehicle this weekend and was working like a charm. I've replaced it with the E36 rack while the motor was out, i dont have room to store it so if no one is interested it's getting dumped so make me an offer and take it away. PM me
  16. Hey guys I am after the drivers side lower radiator mount for a facelift E30, if anyone has one available for sale, please PM me. Darren
  17. thanks guys, i thought so but i thought id check first anyway... Unfortunately that site doesnt help me as my donor was a Z3 and the other stuff is all from E30 and E36 Everything is ready now for the new engine next weekend, VW Golf booster, New master cylinder, E36 steering rack etc. Sending the flywheel away to be lightened and then put the box to the new engine and in the car next weekend. Everything has gone smoothly up until now so im waiting for the electrical system to throw up some problems as it seems to be going way to good to be true...
  18. Hey all So the motor is ready to go into the car next weekend, just wanted to ask some questions about the engine loom as i was given all this in a box with the engine so im unsure about a few things from the donor car.... I've posted a photo and im sure those of you who know their way around will be able to tell me what i need to keep and what i can get rid of. There are 2 big plugs for the ECU, one is obviously for the EC and if i recall correclty, the guy told me the other control box was for the transmission, Can anyone confirm this and can i take all those wires back and get rid of them? I've already done a dummy run on the engine stand and plugged everything in so im happy with that side of things, it's just this extra control box im not sure about and i want to get rid of any unnecessary wires if theyre not needed. Cheers
  19. Awesome, thanks man. I just dont like to just assume, it's how you mess things up... So isee the 2 plugs on the harness, one seems different to the other which is why i asked if i needed 2 different sensors as i thought the plugs may be different for the before and after sensors so you dont get them around the wrong way. So can i use the holes in the headers and just plug them in there? I would prefer that option for a number of reasons, whenever i'm at the wrecking yards, they always seem to be further down which is why i wasnt sure if i can use those holes. Darren
  20. Hey people So i'm about ready to slot this into my E30 but because i purchased the engine already removed and in bits, i have a couple of questions about the O2 sensors in the exhaust. The factory stainless headers have a threaded nut in each one and look like they have been plugged from the factory. After looking online, i have found that the Z3 (from which this motor is out of) has 2 sensors down near the cat convertors, looks like one is before and one is after the cat convertors, i dont intend to run one, so am not really sure how to approach this whole thing. So my question is, where should i put these sensors in the new exhaust system, i am guessing i need to purchase specific sensors for this engine, but is this still relevant if the exhaust system is completely different from factory. Would love to know what everyone else has done on this engine swap. Cheers
  21. Yeah, so long as no one has placed a bid... You can call me on 021 686 521 if you wanna chat or PM here Darren
  22. Hey guys Am pulling the old M20B20 out of my 1990 E30, still in car and can bee seen running if someone wants to take it for a drive and check it out before purchasing. Engine is a complete except flywheel and starter motor. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=772760764&ed=true
  23. I have an m20b20 engine for sale. It's out of my E30 facelift and has done 250,000kms, i'm not sure what has been done to it over the years, she starts everytime, doesn't use oil and i am selling it as a complete unit. It has been well looked after with regular oil and filter changes. This will be available in around 2 weeks as it is still currently in my car and will remain there until it is sold so you can see it running and take it for a drive if you want to. Just wanted to let everybody know so they can purchase it with confidence as like all engines this age, there are some kms on them. It will not come with the starter motor or flywheel as these are required for my transplant, not interested in seperating stuff out as i dont have anywhere to store it, as soon as someone buys it, i will pull it out that weekend so they can come and pick it up. PM me if your are interested and well come to a price thats fair for both.
  24. Bummer, just sold a genuine towbar on tradme for a facelift... have you looked on Trade me?
