Dogballs is correct, the transponder doesn't care what key blade it belongs to. The only drawback is that you are sacrificing a key to make another key.

thanks for chiming in Gabe...
also, as far as the part# and 315Mhz or 433Mhz freq.....it doesn't really matter which one you'll get, especially with most cars coming from Japan. What's more important is, do you have a bmw business radio or similar and wish to keep full functionality? In that case you'll need 6907123 (433 Mhz) or 6907124 (315Mhz) ...again your choice

this whole thing is called volute spring (I01002, X01003). Best to look up the pinout at http://www.bmw-planet.net/diagrams/release/us/e46/index.htm
Essentially, the left plug feeds the airbag, the right one (blue, grey, wht, red) the cruise control buttons. You might have to tap into the green main connector that plugs in from behind the wheel (X10170). Good luck.

Is it yel/bl or yel/gr now?

I found only one Yellow/Green wire and it wasn't going to the Transmission control module (blue) as it seems here, but the DME (black module).
Last 7 of your VIN please to help is identify your tranny?
Thanks,
a.

pull that big plug connector going to the ABS/DSC control module and trace those 2 wires...it's hard to say without knowing the exact color codes as Will mentioned.

this is an easy enough DIY and will take you only about an hour to do.
If you are not comfortable, find a buddy that can assist you. But it's literally 3m of two-wire cable, some zip ties, and using 2 quick splice connectors - a lot less wiring than any other aftermarket solution.
Any technician would be waste of money as they would simply follow my outlined instructions and in the end not even warranty their work.
Everyone on this forum has been in a similar situation and will provide help as you can see.

Is there anyway to get this working, or anything that could be wrong? 3 of my friends also have e46s without an alarm and they flash for deterrence. I have confirmation enabled which I heard is meant to enable clown nose as well, does something else need to be enabled via programming?
Cheers.
e46 328i 1998.
just out of curiosity, what did you find out?
-
you are wrong, the clown nose contains two LEDs from factory. The IR receiver is inside the mirror. You can carefully pry it out with a flathead screwdriver and pull it off.
There are 2 reasons why it doesn't flash: it's probably not wired to the General Module. Second, you need to code your car and set DWA (Alarm system) to active.
Here is what you can do to see if it's pre-wired: Unsnap the mirror plastic cover and pull the plug connector to see if there is a wire at Pin# 9. I think it's grey/black with thin yellow marks. This runs to the GM5 (X254 / 26-pin, black connector) Pin# 23 and feeds the LED.
as an example, in the picture below the wire is missing....

from my experience the inclination sensor will not go off when you bump the car, not even when you push down on a corner. Only if you raise it with a jack.

how much for a set? pm me. thanks

That's correct. You need to figure out which one is Key 1, do that one first and then all others. Otherwise it won't hold the sync. You need to sync all keys with the car and activate one after the other to re-associate the lock-unlock function.
