  1. Thanks guys.

Yes, Glenn did a lot of work on it for the previous (2nd) owner.

He also marketed the car for sale on T/Me (on behalf of the same owner) back in 2008/2009.

It didn't sell at that time, so the owner held on to it, until March this year when he sold it to me.

    Current mileage is 26,750 km.

    Cheers.

  2. *Drool*

But what are those blasphemous wheel weights doing on the lovely dish of the Style 5's!!

    That's just criminal!!

Yes, I grimaced too when I first saw those.

Will rectify this, along with a few other bits and pieces that need attention.

She's not perfect, but with a little TLC will be a lot closer to it.

Meanwhile, thanks for all the admiring posts.

  3. I've been reading the same, & was gob-smacked by how tidy, original, & 'as new' it looks.......just amazing!! To me, those 850's just seem so far ahead of their time, given when they were produced.

Yes Peter, you definitely need those rims - whole fleet with match then....... :)

    Thanks.

Yes, cross spoke design all round, including the CSi.

I've made a separate thread for it here:

  4. " One of seven right-hand drive 850CSi coupes (type EG92) built to non-UK specification "

    Now, that's rare !!

    Nice Car

Thanks, she's a rare beauty alright.

The 850CSi was never offered for sale here in NZ, as it would have been hugely expensive.

I've also heard another reason, that it needed a specific grade of high octane unleaded petrol which NZ did not have back then.

Of the 160 RHD 850CSi's produced, there were 153 built to UK-spec, and the seven non-UK RHD cars which were sold in Australia (3), Singapore (2) and Hong Kong (2).

We actually have two of these seven CSi's here in NZ - mine (ex-HKG) and one of the Singapore cars.

The other HKG car is still registered there, while the remaining Singapore car now lives in Australia.

I've heard that one of the (four) cars in Oz is actually in a museum!

  5. Those Style 5s are killer. Want to sell them :P

This car was factory ordered with these wheels, an option that was available at the time.

I think they suit the E31 better than the Style 21, M-System II ('Throwing Star') wheel, which was the standard fitment for the 850CSi (the Style 37, 18-inch 'M-Parallel Spoke' wheel became an optional upgrade for the last year of production).

Somehow the style 5's look bigger on the E31 than the T/Stars, even though both styles are the same diameter (17-inch).

And no, I'm not selling them!

As a set, they would probably only suit another E31 anyway, due to the different offsets between front and rear on these cars.

  6. What do other V8 owners get in regards to fuel economy?

    I'm sitting around 14-15 l/100km.

My '96 540i Touring (still miss that car!) used to show between 12 and 13 l/100 km on the OBC, with normal driving.

    The three 530i V8's I had weren't much better, at around 12.

  7. Good on ya - nice looking line-up. :) Its quite kool really when you think all were made in Germany before dispatch to various parts of the world, & have now all found themselves at your place from where they were originally.

Pics of 850 sometime too maybe.......??

    Cheers.

Thanks - they're all standard, no mods except the clear indicators on the Arktissiber car, plus it originally didn't have the front fogs or the cross-spoke alloys.

I want to fit the same alloys to the E28, as they allow more rubber on the road and really do suit the car, as in this shot of my previous car.

  8. Hi. Given I know not much bout BMW's - there wasn't a E34 V8 'M' spec was there?? From whats listed here, I'm taking it as not - all were 6 cylinders?? Next 'dumb' question - did M series get both narrow & wide grille versions, depending on year of build or just narrow grille only??

All E34 M5's had either the S38 B36 or the S38 B38 6-cylinder engine (see previous post above for the special non-M5 V8 versions).

All E34 M5 3.6's and the earlier 3.8's were pre-facelift cars (narrow grilles).

The final 3.8 version (from May 1994) had the wider facelift kidney grille and 6-speed gearbox, uprated brakes, etc.

Only 139 of this last 3.8 variant were built in RHD.

  9. there were some motorsport v8 e 34s,the aussies got a special one,and so did the canadians and yanks. The e34 540 six speeds here were also body kitted and sports seats etc very similar in execution to the 535s

The only true 'M540i' was the Canadian market version, of which just 32 cars were produced, in 1995.

Unlike the 540i Manual Limited Edition (Australia) or the 540i M-Sport (US), the 32 Canadian cars were completed at the BMW M-facility in Garching.

Engine was stock but suspension, gearbox, wheels and brakes were straight from the 3.8l, 6-speed E34 M5 parts bin.

However, they all retained the standard 'WBA' factory VIN (not the 'WBS' prefix usually assigned to M-cars).

    See more info here.

  10. I've been a 5-series nut ever since buying my first E28 (also my first BMW) around 20 years ago.

Since then I've owned a further four E28's, including an M5; eight E34's, including three Touring's; and three E39's - two of which were Touring's.

An E30 320iSE, E38 728iA and E23 745iA were also slotted into the mix, but I invariably return to the faithful and familiar five series.

This is a (pretty average) shot of our current 5er fleet.

94 525iA (wife's car, 202,000 kms - bought it fresh from Japan [one owner] with 68k on it, back in '01)

    92 535iA (SA built, 132,000 kms)

88 525eeA (NZ new, project car, 165,000 kms)

My other current BMW is a '94 850CSi.

  11. I saw that Touring wagon for sale in Tauranga - well done on the purchase.

The hatch wiring loom is usually the culprit for niggles in that area.

There are two different solenoids for the hatch and rear window release, too.

They are great cars - I've owned three E34 and two E39 Tourings.

Good luck with getting her sorted.

P.S. If you go with the 16-inch rim upgrade, I'm looking for a set of these 15-inch cross spokes for my E28 project.

  12. Just wondering if anyone knows how many are in NZ? Any members have one?

When was the last time one came up for sale (other than Brent's green one)?

Thanks for raising this question - I'm a big fan of the E34 M5, although I've never owned one.

A couple of years ago I was in the process of tracking them all down for a NZ E34 M5 register, but the project was shelved due to a general lack of interest from many owners.

However, at last count there were 23 E34 M5's known to be in this country.

Eighteen 3.6 litre and five 3.8 litre cars, comprising:

    2 HD91's (Euro LHD 3.6)

    15 HD92's (Euro RHD 3.6)

    1 HD98 (ZA RHD 3.6)

    5 HC92 (Euro RHD 3.8)

My research showed that only about 8 or 9 of them were NZ new - the remainder are imports.

I've got the build sheets for most of these cars - must download the rest of them when I get some spare time.

And I'd appreciate it if anyone else on here has any further info or pics of the NZ E34 M5's, so I can update the records and hopefully one day get the register up and running.

    Cheers.
