  1. Update on the clutch... Thank you to all that helped!!

I ended up removing the Transmission and found that the release bearing was not in place... Not sure how but it popped out while installing originally but resolved now.

Took the car for its first little drive.. upon reversing her back into the garage she died.. 4-5 times.. to the point where I couldn't start the car again because the battery died.

I'm assuming its the new clutch biting more along with the power steering needing more from the engine causing it to die... any thoughts?

Another thing I found  is that the shifter (all new bushings etc) only lightly clicks into gear.. would this mean i'm in need of new Detent springs/have them the wrong way round?

Another thing I have found is that the gears grind quite easily.. Not sure if I'm just used to a hydraulic clutch or my transmission is about to crap itself.

Appreciate any feedback - shes my first E30 so not sure what to be looking for.

  2. Thanks guys,

There is only one clutch kit on the website for the G260 on the website and everything else was an exact replacement, I remember comparing the old with new and the throw out bearing was the same length. Im also using the same old push out rod on the slave and putting it on the same position it came out.

I will email FCP to see what they say about the length of the throwout bearing.

  3. Hi team,

I have recently embarked on a project E30 M20B25 recondition running a gertreg 260 with a new Sachs clutch kit off FCP Euro.

The issue I’m having is that clutch pedal feels spongy and won’t won’t disengage the clutch- despite bleeding multiple times, replacing both the Master & slave cylinders.

I feel as though the slave cylinder rod is fully pushed forward already and doesn’t even have enough reach to push it further.

    any ideas?

  4. Thanks for all the recommendations!

I ended up buying them from Fcpeuro along with a bunch of other things I needed, however, they did not have the washers for the M16 bolt.

Thinking - would a rubber washer from supercheap/repco work better/the same as a crush washer? otherwise will fork out the $3 per washer from BMW NZ :(

I was thinking about Amazon or eBay. Is the popping and extra noise enjoyable or does it get old fairly quickly in your experience?

No pops or bangs without MHD stage 2 - (Which you would need new spark plugs and coil packs for..  in most cases.) without that they did not sound much different to stock. No Engine light for 500 or 700kms I believe? They also caused a tad more turbo rattle.

i have Eibach coupe springs and Bilstein sport shocks in my cabby, gives a nice height.

i am running a 9" wheel in the back with a 215 tyre. they just kiss the gaurds if i have the boot loaded up with stuff, a full tank of gas and i go over a bump otherwise its fine, the shocks could probably do with a refresh as they are pretty old, i would say it wouldnt do it if the shocks were new.

My E30 is running the exact same setup as you! my main concern is that it wont pass a wof with that stretch.. had any issues?

The shifter arm and the exhaust system will be the same for the coupe and sedan E30 325i, which will make your search a little easier as there are not many cabrios around in NZ.

Lowering springs are the same size and shape as for the coupe and sedan, but tend to sit a bit lower on the cabby due to the extra body weight. Just something to bear in mind when looking at "normal" e30 springs but making the search easier again.

Thanks Jon! Really appreciate it good things to know!

  8. Hi Team,

Im in need of some help from you experienced M20 peeps.

I've recently bought my first E30.

It has an M20B25 engine with roughly 240,000Kms on the clock and want to send it somewhere to give it a bit of a refresh.

The engine is practically out of the car so id just be sending the head and block.

    My budget is $2-$2.5k.

My question is what extent of work can done with such a budget on an M20 and who/where do you recommend to send it to in the north Shore/Auckland area?

    Any input & experience appreciated!

  9. Hi Team,

I have bought a E30 Carbrio as a project about 3 weeks ago.

The previous owner cut the front tow hooks to fit a bumper in the past and from my understanding this difficult to wof.

I have got a quote for $595 + GST to weld on some new ones.

My question is what would be a more cost effective way to get around this to pass wof?

    Would appreciate any input.

    Cheers.

  10. Hi Team,

Looking for the following if you can supply or point in the right direction:

    Shifter arm (Getrag 260)

Rear Lowering springs - Currently running extremely low springs and very stretched tires wanting to go a little higher so i am able to fit wider tires for easier wof.

Full Stock exhaust system (325i) - ideally to trade for my Remus exhaust setup... too loud for me.

    Thanks!
