7 hours ago, Jadon said:Since listing my car three weeks ago, I’ve had multiple offers for 5k. Is that really all they are worth now? I spent almost double that a year ago to buy the car and back then they were getting snapped up before I could get a look at them.
I want a manual 130i and I’m starting to think going towards a manual conversion might be the better option for me. Does anyone have any experience with the swap?Appear to be a lot of auto's about currently, I almost bought one for 8 from Turners, the same car is now 6.5, buyers market at the moment I don't think it is just 130i's

I got mine for 10 with 135k, maybe 8 or bit less ?
Looks super tidy, jelly of that woodtrim

CDV delete and new trans fluid today, easy job aside from rounding off the stupid plastic bleed screw a little..grrr
What a difference !!
Clutch action is just 100 times better, shifts butter smooth, what were BMW thinking with this.
Interesting that my car was owned by an enthusiast without deleting it, crazy

Loving this little weapon, it's a perfect partner to the E39.
When I am in the mood for a wafty cruise the 5 series is perfect , when hoon mode is engaged the 130i such an engaging drive.
Drives super tight not a rattle or creak to be had, my only negative so far is the change into second feels just a little clunky and louder and the headlights need a good refurb.
Sounds glorious I am quite surprised how loud it is.
Anyone have a short shift kit installed ?

Keen on one of these for a daily
Question for you 130i owners, seems like a manual one commands a stupid tax.
How is the auto ? Do all models have paddles and are they any good or should I just save for a stick ?

Thanks for that, would they polish up ok ?
My problem is the other one I have is close to brand new nick
Wheels on that for sale ?

How useful is an air compressor ? I don't have one yet.
Are the likes of the Supercheap/Repco ones ok for a home noob mechanic or do you need to spend more coin ?

After much swearing and cursing eventually got it tight without taking the strut back out !
To anyone who has an E39 with worn suspension/struts man what a difference, just feels so good now.
Just ordered the rear rebuild kit !

Yeah that's what I did at first, used one of the studs from the old mount , it's just spinning in place though when I try to tighten the nut.
I will try again using the same nut if I can get it off the broken stud.
Cheers

Hi Chaps
Just finished my first big job on the E39 rather proud of myself however it was not without incident
Changed the front struts (OE Sachs) and all hardware, tie rod ends and sway bar links, hardest part of the job was seperating the balljoints and compressing the springs...sketchy.
I did manage however to snap off one of the strut mount bolts , I was so angry at myself.
my question is..I have punched the old stud out, can I now just go and buy a bolt to fit and away we go ? , the old stud is just a press fit so its impossible to tighten once you have whacked it out. (can't grip it from the bottom).
Hopefully that's clear.
