I'm guessing timing chain? Car has ticked over 100k, will send into the shop. Will the mechanics be to hasty and replace the timing chain as first port of call, versus the sensors or Vanos valve first?

Can anybody shed any light on fault codes my 2013 F20 N13 116i is spitting out; DIY Fix hopefully? Comes up with a drivetrain fault on the dash. Goes in and out of limp mode? Fault shows immediately when switched ON rather than during a trip. Thanks

We had a random coolant level low warning come up yesterday, after already having done a 15min short trip somewhere. Left car for 2hrs and come back to it to drive home. Would like to top it up before driving again, reservoir looks really low. There seems to be red coolant colour in the expansion tank, what should I add to get me to a garage for flush/change etc? Thanks

Hi all, will introduce myself proper when I get the car back from the Mrs and take some photos etc. We recently picked up a white 2013 116i Sport, and am already keen on tuning it. This is a second family car, used as a run-a-bout but not a daily. Would like to take it to my mechanic for health check prior to tuning. But my question, after a quick search, has anyone done any DIY tuning with the affordable gear I've seen online from AliExpress? Is it a case of buying a programmer, removing ECU, downloading a file and writing it into the system? Is it worth $1000+ to get it done professionally versus trying to do something for 2-300? Thanks
