they are charging me $190 for the gaskets themselves, do you reckon I should buy my own and supply them because from what ive heard that is a lot for the gaskets.

Thanks everyone for the input. So I just dropped it off, I decided to only do the oil filter housing gaskets for now as I think I will replace the entire valve cover itself later as it is not as urgent if I am correct. They said they source the oil filter housing gasket from BMW but they were very expensive so I hope they are quality. I also decided to do full oil change while it's there, smoke test, fluids top up and scan my check engine light which was not planned in the previous quote of $1442 without replacing the whole valve cover. I hope I didn't get scammed too badly, $1000 😬

They quoted $1442 for valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket and oil change with filter. I don't have any tools and no experience would it possible for me to try or should I leave it to the professionals?

Hi all, Im taking my 2007 130i into the shop tomorrow to replace both the valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets. I just have a quick question, I have heard that since I have the LCI, with the plastic valve cover (black engine cover) I also need to replace the entire valve cover along with the gasket. Is this true? Also, they quoted my another $350 on top of the valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets to replace the valvetronic motor gasket, is it a smart idea to go ahead with this. (im on a very tight budget) Thank in advance, any help or stuff I should know about the valve cover would be amazing.

Thank you. Do you have a rough estimate on much it might cost to get my oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket replaced? I don't think I should try myself because I have no tools unless its a very easy job?

Thanks for the reply, which gaskets need replacing? the ones I mentioned? Also what do you mean by 'if you pull a coil pack you'll be able to tell fast' sorry for my lack of knowledge. Do you think that the spark plugs and coils would have to be replaced if they are covered in oil? Thank you.

Hi everyone, I am completely new to this forum and new to owning a car let alone a BMW. I have no experience with cars. I have recently bought a 2007 BMW 130i which has done 106,000km with the N52 engine. When I start the car, I sometimes smell a burning smell and the idle is quite rough for a bit. There is also white smoke coming out of the driver side (RHD) of the engine which I have read is usually caused by a bad valve cover gasket. However I think I might also have an oil filter housing gasket leak too and it seems pretty oily around that area. I've heard this can be catastrophic as it can derail the serpentine belt but the belt looks dry to me. I will add some photos. Am I right to think that the rough idle could be caused by oil getting into the spark plugs from the leaky valve cover gasket? Also is it safe to drive my car? Thank you all.
