That's good to know, thanks for the advice. I'll try and source some decent tyres as I'm not really keen on running budget ones. I've got Toyo T1s' on the rears at the moment and find them to be really good, so might just try and source some of those in the 235/40/17's. Thanks again

As far as I'm aware all the rims are the same width, (haven't had them off to look properly) and as I mentioned they're all wrapped in 235/40/17's at the moment. Only reason I was thinking of going 235/45's was that there are some Michelin PS3's for sale in that size on TM that are pretty cheap. I don't want to put shitty, cheap tyres on but at the same time I don't really want to spend $260-$300/tyre either. If the 45's wont fit, then that's all good and I'll just have to suck it up. Just wanted to see if it would be possible that's all.

Hi all, I'm looking at getting some new tyres for my 95 M328is coupe. It's standard height, running DS1 M3 wheels, currently with 235/40/17's all round. I don't have any rubbing (apart from a very small amount at full lock). I'm wondering if I could fit 235/45/17's on? I'm replacing the front's at the moment but would like to be able to keep the front and back's the same, so also wondering if 45's will fit on the rears when it's time to do those. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Angus

Hi all, I'm appealing to my fellow BMW enthusiasts and am wondering if anyone has a car trailer in the lower North Island, I might be able to borrow/rent for this years Targa. I need one from the 20/10-29/10 and would be able to pick it up and drop it off. Please let me know if you or anyone you know might has one so I can get my E30 weapon to the start line. Please email me at [email protected] or reply to me on here. Thanks in advance. Angus

Hi Stephen, how's it going? Thanks for the input, will probably get the tuning done through Speedtech
-
ok thanks, I'll investigate.
-
Oh real, can they not be tuned by someone like speedtech? I'll be running the standard distributor. yeah I've been looking at piggybacks and am definitely still open to that idea.
-
Yeah I get it now. Did a bit of research and have found the same thing, was worth a look though.Do you know anything about Microtech stuff? Can you recommend a good ECU that would be within my budget of no more than $1000 for the ECU and loom? If I was to go with a second hand unit, would it be able to be retuned to my car even though it may come from a different make of car? Sorry for my ignorance on the matter, I'm pretty new to all of this. Cheers

Hi thanks for your response. The engine is an ETA block. I'm not really sure how the engine builder managed to get such high compression I'm in the process of trying to find out. My guess is that when he was decking the block he's taken too much out. He has so far denied this and as I don't have any measurements from before the rebuild it's almost impossible for me to prove that this is what he's done. I'm pretty dark about it, but at the end of the day I guess I'll just have to suck it up and learn from the experience. I've decided to go with putting a thicker head gasket in to lower the compression and will then get an ECU to tune it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your advice guys, have you heard anything about Megasquirt? http://www.msextra.com/

Hi all, So I'm wanting some advice on tuning for my M20B27. I've recently had it rebuilt and now that I have it back have found that it has way to much compression, around 230psi. I'm pretty dark about this as the engine is now detonating and the chip that was programmed for the engine previously is now no longer suitable. I figure I've got a few options: 1. lower the compression by installing a thicker head casket or changing pistons or something similar. I don't really want to go down this route if I can avoid it as I've just spent a fair amount getting the engine built and there's no guarantee that this will lower the compression enough to allow me to tune it. 2. Buy a Link ECU or other after-market computer and try and tune it to allow me to run that high compression. If this would work I'm willing to consider it but I don't really want to have to spend another 3k if I can avoid it. 3. Get the original tuner to try and write a new blank chip on the dyno for me. If this works it'll be the cheapest option but there's no guarantee that it would and if it doesn't then I'm down $1200 with nothing to show for it. I'd love to know if any one has any ideas about how I could fix this problem. Thanks in advance. Angus

Hi all, So I have recently purchased a 1986 325i E30 complete with cage, seat etc but want to upgrade the suspension that's currently in it to something that is going to be better suited to tarmac rallying. Currently in the car is adjustable Koni's up front with low king springs and in the rear it's pretty much standard with just M sport springs and shocks. This has been ok for the few meetings i've done so far but wont hold up on rougher roads I will encounter when I start doing Targa events and as you can see from the photo has quite a lot of body roll. My first step is suspension and I have looked around at various options and not wanting to spend an arm an a leg to get Koni, Bilstein or similar coilovers I've looked at some of the new Taiwanese brands coming on to the market, BC XYZ etc. I've read some good reviews about the BC stuff and apparently XYZ have developed a rally spec coilover for the E30 with some people running it in Targa events already. To have either of these brands fitted involves cutting the spindles off the original suspension and welding it to the new suspension. I've been assured that this is ok but was wondering if anyone had heard anything about either company and knows if this process is ok? Would love to hear you thoughts and suggestions. Cheers Angus
