While its a shame to see a nice car getting parted out, often it provides the parts to keep 10+ more on the road

    This could be optimistic lol

My prediction is that all the leftover M5 specific bits will be put on a 525i. Or even worse, an e60 diesel variant haha 🤣

  2. Nice! Had a XC90 4.4l v8 which really surprised me. Will say it was quicker and way more practical interior space wise than an E53 X5. Have found myself browsing R-Design 3.2l XC90’s lately! The Swedes know how to do it - or should that be knew how to do it haha

  3. JVC/Kenwood seem to good value for basic single din fitment and Bluetooth/usb/amber lighting (on certain models) functionality. Their mech-less ones also save on space fitting wise.
I have an Alpine single fin (UTE-XXbt or something like that) unit in one of mine, which I’m impressed with. It doesn’t look out of place and the amber lighting is pretty close too. Plus get BT and front USB charging/playback. Nothing flash but does the trick. HTH

  4. I'm stunned and shattered. Sanjay was the ultimate enthusiast. Yes his knowledge of local BMW's, particularly e24, e34, e31, e39 M5, was truly next level. But his ability to recall particular cars, their owners and locations, and time period they owned them was mind boggling. And he would rattle off local build and import numbers like you wouldn't believe.

For those that didn't know, Sanjay was an ex-pat living in the States. I connected with him several years ago when I cheekily PM'd him enquiring about his 840ci (he had mentioned in a post that it was still here). Within minutes of passing on contact details he gave me the first call of what would become many.

Although conversations where mainly talking cars, there were many times of just chatting about life. Sanjay was a ball of excitement and enthusiasm, always freely passing on his knowledge and advice. We looked forward to one day meeting kanohi ki te kanohi, tangata ki te tangata (in person) to talk about and drool over cars. Alas, this was not meant to be.

Our connection was over the e31 - I was constantly picking his brain! "My 840ci was a keeper" he would always say (he was fastidious about it and it was one of the better, if not best, examples) until... he acquired his e39 M5 Dinan. Not that long ago, he did let his 840ci go so in his honour, I share with you 'his 8' ... Rest In Paradise my brother and until we meet...

  5. Be aware that the value is $1k NZD when Duty and GST (on the order and shipping) is charged/due for the order to be cleared through Customs. This will need to be paid before it is released to local courier for delivery.

Since FCP changed to exclusively using UPS, I try to keep orders below the $NZD threshold - UPS are the ones who collect the taxes on behalf of the taxman and are pretty strict in doing so. Wish FCP would be friends with FedEx again... 🤣

Though based on the 2019 thread, it looks like there was a new M62 swapped in at 120k?

My read of the thread is that a motor and trans with 120kms was installed (along with the M5 goodies) in 2019 - the car had travelled 270kms at the time of the swap. So, lower km engine/trans than what the chassis is. Was really impressed with this build back in 2019 and still am, other than the red interior :-(. e39 540i Tourings don't come up that often either!

Non-vanos = probably one less thing to fix haha!

  8. 840 + 6-speed is the bees knees! but the 850csi is the holy grail of the e31!!

I was told that there were six NZ new manual 840's (excl the converted one), one is de-reg and at least one is now in Oz. So having two of four remaining is pretty 'rare' in my book - if you find one, I would be keeping them, ah I mean it!! 😎

Thinking Bilstein B8s that I have already and have been revalved and refurbished by the NZ agents for Bilsteins.

Curious , Who are the nz agents? Have a set of B8’s for an e31 - was recommended option (not a CSI but has factory m-sport springs apparently) when I bought them. But on other forums, owners say they are a harsh ride and get them revalved to a more comfort setting.
Don’t want to put them the ride is horrible - factory ride is quite nice! And yeah, I’m at that stage in life! lol
