That's Awesome! Can you tell me anything about it did it work well, was it easy to build, what info did you have reading on the display?

i am sure some of you have seen the alpina vent gauge, http://media.photobucket.com/image/e30%20a...alpina/alp6.jpg it displays oil pressure, diff temp, engine oil temp and manifold pressure ever since i saw it i was looking for options, just wanted to share some links in case other people are interested, post back and let me know what you think.. PICAXE, is the name of a UK-sourced microcontroller system. They are an easy to program microcontroller and you can use them to control things such as lcd screens. like this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Picaxe-bas...nished-Circuit/ Here is a cool lcd which is similar to the factory dash lighting and alpina gauge colours http://nicegear.co.nz/lcds/serial-enabled-...d-on-black-33v/ Here is somebody using a programmable lcd in their car and i am sure you all recognize the center console, http://lcdash.wikispaces.com/ Here is another programmable lcd multi gauge which somebody setup in their car using picaxe, http://www.markdepot.com/multi/
  3. well i think im going to go redline 75w90 in the diff, but im not sure on the transmission, there are so many different opinions. The manual says sae 80 and has no mention of g3 full syn atf, but i dont know if its the original manual, i cant see a sticker on the trans, but i dont know where to look or it may have come off, some people say bmw only recommended atf because back then there were not gear oils of the correct grade. Atf seems to be recommended for some and not others even though they are all getrag 240's The trans has hex/allen key drain and fill bolts does that make a difference? im just going to buy the tool to undo the fill bolt stick my finger in and see if its atf or gear oil in there..
  4. if the gauge flickering gets worse its quite probably that the grounding nut needs tightning in the back of the instument cluster. Remove cluster, tighten night behind temp gauge (on back of cluster, you dont have to pull the cluster apart), and reinstall. This seems to be a pretty common issue.

  6. i got the proper hose, was planning on re-using the same hose clamps. However i notice they look like standard hose clamps, i think they are the oem clamps. I was reading somewhere somebody was saying blame bmw for using the wrong clamps i think i should get some of those smooth rounded fuel injection clamps rather than reusing the same ones.
  7. ok thanks for your help, looks like i have to fork out for the sae 30 r9 expensive stuff paying that much per meter i would prefer to have the proper 8 x 13mm hose, however it seems pretty rare is it fine to use 5/16" instead? i will shop around tomorrow and compare prices
  8. one of my fuel lines is showing cracks and splits all down it in my facelift e30. I think it is the return fuel line?.. it goes from the fuel pressure regulator to underneath the car, i bought some replacement fuel hose from supercheap $10 per metre. Its 5/16, (couldnt find 8 x 13 mm). Is it fine to use 5/16 instead? however my main question is whether or not the hose is suitable for fuel injection. i asked the sales assistant and they said it should be sweet but i am not so sure.. the hose is marked, h511 automotive fuel hose sae 30 r6 wp12 BAR ID 5/16" 09119 what do you think should i use it or find some other stuff? thanks
  9. ok thanks, ill get some tomorrow
  10. oh right, so the diamteter doesnt really matter? it doesnt have to be the size of the oem part? and its fine to use hose bigger or smaller?
  11. it looks as though you cannot use the aux input of the factory radio without the ariel going up. There is no sound output through the speakers on aux unless the blue antenna wire is connected. I guess because the blue antenna wire also turns on the factory amplifier?
  12. hi, hope somebody can help me. i have an m20b20 from an e30 facelift. I want to replace the vacuum line which runs between the fpr (fuel pressure regulator) and the intake manifold. What size is this vacuum hose? i cant find any specific information on it and real oem.com doesnt show it that clear. From what i can tell it is 3.5 mm inner diameter/7.5mm outer diameter. Is this correct? Also where do i get it from?, as I went to both repco and supercheap and neither of them sold 3.5mm vacuum hose thanks,

    Quick Questions

Hi, have a couple of pretty simple questions thought i would try out this thread.. 1) i am curious, what is a stroker ? 2) i need to replace the vacuum line going from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake on my m20b20. Is this hose 3.5mm vacuum line? if so where do i get 3.5mm vacuum hose from because repco and supercheap dont have it?
  14. hi, what is the best oil and filter to use for the m20b20? also what fluid do you use for the getrag 240 and 4.1 diff? thanks, i tried the search but it came up with no result even when i just put in 'oil'
  15. yea thats the plan , would be awesome if it works. as long as there are sufficient amps in the wires.. do you know what the rem out is for?
  16. well i bought a cable from trademe which was faulty sent me another one which arived todays and is also faulty (soemtimes trademe is not worth the hassle) so progress has been slow. I am now going to buy one from dicksmith. I have already cut my blue ariel wire. Almost about to give in to the ariel switch idea when i notice a wire tapped up in the bundle with the ariel wire which is labeled "REM OUT" , there is also a rem in wire. They are not connected. What is this 'REM OUT' wire for? The reason i ask is because i noticed that the 'rem out' wire had 7/8 volts when the unit was set to radio and zero volts when the unit was set to aux. I connected this 'rem out' wire to the blue power antenna wire but it is not enough to power the antenna. I am aiming for some kind of electronic switch so that by using the 7 volts from this 'rem out' wire i can activiate the connection in the blue ariel wire
  17. ok thanks looks like i will have to hook the blue wire up to the switch then . unless i can think of some smart way to wire the stereo so that when a current goes through the radio part of the circuit it activates and electronic switch which is wire up to the ariel wire.. but it might just be easier to put a switch in i will see might open the radio and have a look hmm i believe it is possible to rewire the stereo so the arial only goes up when its set to radio, but i would need the sony xr-7300 service repair manual which i have searched the internet far and wide for with no luck. Except for paying for it ofcourse, if those sites are even legit
  18. i dont seem to have the blue and white stripe wire, just the solid blue wire john s, if your around, did your ariel go up even when the stereo was not set to radio?
  19. bummer, i wish there was a way to make it only go up when it unit is set to radio automatically without needing a switch... I have looked at the pinout, but what wire in the bundle of cables is the antenna power wire?
  20. This thread made my day, i bet alot of people dont know this. I am in the middle of setting up my e30 for ipod connectivity. The only annoying thing i find with this is when i turn on the stereo the antenna goes up when its not on radio. So if you just have it on aux you have to have your enourmously long 1 metre ariel sticking up for no reason . I also frequently listen to my ipod so it would be giving the ariel motor alot of unneeded work. How do i make it so the ariel only goes up when its set to radio?
