does your arial come down when you change to cd? most factory units, epseically older ones don't in which case there is +12V there.
-
unless hes running on high levels off the rear speakers. but as above factory amps, maybe fuel pump using a relay?
-
was going to say the high end alpines like the 9887 only output 22wrms x 4. The 50w max claims are a load of rubbish. It has two sets of RCA outputs which are only 2V so are more susceptible to noise but still perfectly acceptable. Seems like a pretty decent quality cheap headunit.

plugged diagnostic back in. Camshaft sensor is buggered
-
yeah that felt a bit sloppy too. was tempted to cut it off and wire a standard nz plug there so we don't need the adapter anymore
-
fair enough. but im not quite that bad though. the factory radio was removed and a "loom adapter" used. I cant remember whether the aux wire was connected to anything in the factory loom however sceptical because if anything the reception improved with the removal of band expander and factory head unit, and surely the factory unit was powering the aerial amplifier... or are they one off the terrible ones that do it down the aerial antenna wires? the antenna amps are behind the c pillar trim aren't they? do you know what side? might have to have a looksies with my multimeter and see what i can see. cheers for you help i do appreciate it

after market head unit and of course the band expander is removed. There is an adapter from the European areal plug to nz one but those are pretty standard. Its honestly worse than the commodore with a broken aerial almost as bad as it not being plugged in at all only other thing i was thinking is do we have to supply power to the aerial amp or would it be wired to the ignition?
-
it was yes. but we have since changed the radio which improved it ever so slightly but its still terrible. cuts out completely around east auckland, I actually wonder whether its even connected to the aerial (its connected to the headunit)

Hey all. I know the windscreen mounted aerials aren't flash but the one on the e46 I have is ridiculous. I have better reception in my commodore that I snapped the aerial off and haven't had a change to replace yet. I understand there is an amplifier on the aerial signal? Is it possible that this is damaged and needs replacement?

background noise when playing Ipod through DICE
milky replied to M5V8's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
maybe a bit late but ill try anyway try a different amp if you have one available. sometimes if you blow the input capacitor this will happen. Also check that your head deck and amp grounds go back to bare metal as poor grounding also leads to noise. I disagree with the statement above that all systems have an audible hiss, i've seen plenty which are completely silent when there is no music. -
it has been checked by a friend of mine at mc-millans, but today i bought and replaced the plugs, new ones are also flat. it has power under foot now but still doesn't idle smooth. there is oil all around plug 6, so will have to do the rocker cover gasket

Hey all. I have an e46 320 with the M54 engine. Recently it through the check engine light and has begun mis-firing. The diagnostic plug says mis-firing on all cylinders but most commonly on 5. Unplugging any coil causes it to run equally worse, none of them including 5 has no effect. We put coil 5 in an M50 and it caused it to run slightly worse but not as poorly as the e46 (very hard to tell it doesn't run very smoothly anyway), and the coil from the M50 had no effect when put into the e46, we couldn't swap them all because they didn't bolt up and we were holding them in. From my understanding it would be unusual for all six coils to die at once... It has the platinum plugs which have been in there quite a while, is the central probe supposed to extend above the porcelain piece? The NGK catalogue says a 0.5mm gap and its way larger than that between the 4 bits that stick up and the central probe so perhaps it needs new plugs? Any help is much appreciated Cheers Taylor edit: the middle probe is level with the porcelen unlike this one ... or are they suposed to be like that
