Hey guys,
Not BMW related post unfortunately, but recently bought a car through Turners that was repossessed by a finance company and sold as is. Car has a few issues like noisey diff, oil light and airbag light which i had budgeted repairs into.
However, while vacuuming the car tonight i found a booklet for Autosure Extreme cover mechanical insurance valid until 2017. It's still in the previous owners name it says in the booklet he needs to sign something to change name and i'm unsure how he would feel about having a phone call from me after having his car repossessed.
Interested to know if anyone has any experiance with these guys? Would it be possible to claim for my diff etc under the prev owners name? Or transfer it without contacting him?
Any advice appreciated

Looks like OP trying to do the ol sneeky "sell two cars in one listing" trick?
DNK741 looks like the correct plate http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=dnk741
(although says its a saloon?)
I'm potentially keen. Interested in details on engine swap? Kms on new block, receipts available? etc.

Damn, i'm sure a few Wellingtonians have seen and admired that ACS 740 around with the p-plate ACS740.
Now been crashed and sitting abandoned in Kilbirnie

Yes very subjective but my e46 was a Singapore import and from now on ill avoid like the plague.
Hot humid climate had damaged electrics (spend thousands replacing various parts) and perished all the rubber seals around windows and doors (decided not to pay the ~$1000 to have all of them sorted and put up with wind whistle >80kph).
Japan has a similar mild climate to nz, well maintained roads and a culture that typically look after their cars. Have owned sever Jap import cars no worries.

lol its just all so wrong... but its nothing that cant be reversed.. could be a great looking car if i took off all the acs bits

Yeah been BMW-less for a while but still like spewing rubbish on all corners of the internet. I'll race you in the VW for pinkslips - Winner takes all.
Also yeah sounds good.

Sounds like a pretty serious issue Mike..... Cut your losses and move on. Got a mate that will trade it for an 04 Legacy?
-
So how do you go about verifying if it's a genuine Schnitzer or not?
Its got a 544 badge on the boot but after a bit more online searching I think that some people think that car was named wrong..lol
Do you know much about its history? If its a Jap or Singapore import id be leaning towards the idea that someone has just chucked an extra 4 in the badge. AFAIK there is no such thing as as a 544i
If its a fully blown genuine schnitz it should have a plate in the engine bay or door sill with a schnitzer serial number. Its most likely just a body kit..... but if it has schnitzer anywhere in the engine bay (like a Schnitzer rocker cover) could mean its been tuned too. worth doing a vin decode on it if you have the vin.
Is that a photo of the actual car? Looks sick!

Sorry didnt see the part about one owner low kms.
Still prob not a 10k car. The just arent that rare unless it turned out to be a genuine full ac schnitzer car which is unlikely.
Finding a full genuine schnitzer is like hens teeth. You're right 99% of "schnitzers" have 1 or 2 schnitzer parts and 7 million badges.

Surely its a 540? They had a 4.4L v8. Had my eye on these for a while and considering kms id probably guess value to be 7-8k? Which is top dollar as i've seen not so great examples sell for >4k

How's the Legacy holding up? You still have an MR2?
Legacy does the job with little drama (or excitement). Yep bought the "wreck" back from insurance after i was blindsided by a courier van.... still not sure what i'm going to do with it.
Got anything in mind to replace the STi yet?

Sweet car Paul! GLWS!

and this i think is a button for turning on the pizza oven...but im not sure.
Its quite common that the pizza oven fails on these cars. Could never get my pizza oven to work properly.
On a side note, car looks awesome man!

Welcome Ben, 540's are amazing you wont be dissapointed.
Hey, BP5 legacy is a Hugh difference from the previous gen in all aspects, seems to be reliable too considering how much abuse it gets. ps.My wife's 330i will be up for sale in Feb next year if you keen.
BP5s are pretty allround good cars, but that makes them kinda boring. Miss my bmws

Looked into this. Decided it was uneconomical. To do it properly you have to spend so much money you might as well just save it and buy an m3.

Sounds good .. but I would prefer some sort of guideline with regards to overtaking. I just did a trip out to the Coromandel from Auckland, and there are many drivers out there who drive very slow through corners and blind straights etc (i.e. everywhere you can't pass) and then when you hit any sort of passing opportunity, they gun it back to 100/110. which means you are stuck behind them unless you break the speed limit.
Very frustrating to be behind someone like that. Usually I would prefer to pull over and waste some time instead of getting held up like that.
+1 just like how people bum along at 85 then you get to a passing lane and they speed up to 110?
But what could they do about this? Really it comes down to etiquette and it seems many drivers lack the common courtesy.

Buy an MR2. I bought one for $1000, they use hardly any fuel and if you keep the oil topped up you can thrash the crap out of them and they wont explode. Slightly more comfortable than a scooter (although just as practical) and a heap of fun to drive.

Yes definitely safe.
Device will only draw what it needs. Connect it to a computer usb it will take the max 500ma but connect it to a 3a/15w charger most phones will only draw the max which is about 2100ma. No harm in it, does't damage your battery or anything.

It says in the policy documents that it must be serviced every 12 months / 15000kms . And it was last serviced 11months ago / 14,000kms.
Thanks TJ and Qube, have sent him a text offering some beer money to sign the transfer form. Fingers crossed.
