  1. What's the chances of the last owner having met his servicing obligations under the warranty?

If it's not been serviced, they might tell you to jog on anyway.

It says in the policy documents that it must be serviced every 12 months / 15000kms . And it was last serviced 11months ago / 14,000kms. :D

Thanks TJ and Qube, have sent him a text offering some beer money to sign the transfer form. Fingers crossed.

  2. Hey guys,

Not BMW related post unfortunately, but recently bought a car through Turners that was repossessed by a finance company and sold as is. Car has a few issues like noisey diff, oil light and airbag light which i had budgeted repairs into.

However, while vacuuming the car tonight i found a booklet for Autosure Extreme cover mechanical insurance valid until 2017. It's still in the previous owners name it says in the booklet he needs to sign something to change name and i'm unsure how he would feel about having a phone call from me after having his car repossessed.

Interested to know if anyone has any experiance with these guys? Would it be possible to claim for my diff etc under the prev owners name? Or transfer it without contacting him?

    Any advice appreciated

  3. Yes very subjective but my e46 was a Singapore import and from now on ill avoid like the plague.

Hot humid climate had damaged electrics (spend thousands replacing various parts) and perished all the rubber seals around windows and doors (decided not to pay the ~$1000 to have all of them sorted and put up with wind whistle >80kph).

Japan has a similar mild climate to nz, well maintained roads and a culture that typically look after their cars. Have owned sever Jap import cars no worries.

  4. So how do you go about verifying if it's a genuine Schnitzer or not?

Its got a 544 badge on the boot but after a bit more online searching I think that some people think that car was named wrong..lol

    544BADGE.jpg

Do you know much about its history? If its a Jap or Singapore import id be leaning towards the idea that someone has just chucked an extra 4 in the badge. AFAIK there is no such thing as as a 544i

If its a fully blown genuine schnitz it should have a plate in the engine bay or door sill with a schnitzer serial number. Its most likely just a body kit..... but if it has schnitzer anywhere in the engine bay (like a Schnitzer rocker cover) could mean its been tuned too. worth doing a vin decode on it if you have the vin.

Is that a photo of the actual car? Looks sick!

  5. Welcome Ben, 540's are amazing you wont be dissapointed.

Hey, BP5 legacy is a Hugh difference from the previous gen in all aspects, seems to be reliable too considering how much abuse it gets. ps.My wife's 330i will be up for sale in Feb next year if you keen.

BP5s are pretty allround good cars, but that makes them kinda boring. Miss my bmws :(

  6. Sounds good .. but I would prefer some sort of guideline with regards to overtaking. I just did a trip out to the Coromandel from Auckland, and there are many drivers out there who drive very slow through corners and blind straights etc (i.e. everywhere you can't pass) and then when you hit any sort of passing opportunity, they gun it back to 100/110. which means you are stuck behind them unless you break the speed limit.

Very frustrating to be behind someone like that. Usually I would prefer to pull over and waste some time instead of getting held up like that.

+1 just like how people bum along at 85 then you get to a passing lane and they speed up to 110?

But what could they do about this? Really it comes down to etiquette and it seems many drivers lack the common courtesy.
