  1. Hi Justin Have just sent you a PM. Cheers.
  2. I really need to sell this now. Have dropped price on TM to $1900 ono. If you're interested in a good E34 but think that I am dreaming on price, give me a call. Happy to consider reasonable offers.
  3. Price reduced - now looking for $2,600 or near offer.
  4. I am finally admitting defeat and buying a station wagon. I am therefore selling my 1993 E34 BMW 525i with 177,000km. I have regularly had it serviced and maintained at BM Workshop in Grey Lynn. Recent work includes: - New discs and pads all round, new centre track rod and tie rods, air-con re-gassed at 170,000km - VANOS unit overhauled at 144,000km - Gearbox re-built at 143,000km I have receipts for all this and more. I have also replaced the headliner in the last year or so. This car drives very well, with no play in the steering, and smooth gear changes even when cold. On the downside are the usual E34 niggles such as false warnings for blown bulbs, etc. Also, the radio is faulty, but the CD player and aux-in work. Some wear on the drivers seat and a few scratches which one would expect for a car of this age and mileage. Selling for $3,250 ono. Advertised on Trademe. Bimmersport discount available. Car is in Auckland. For enquiries, pls phone 027/247 6074
  5. Looks nice. I am surprised at a 1992 model still having the M20 engine, though.
  6. Signed. Interesting how the Council seems to have rejected the previous petition. This is the same council that imposed their idiotic 40km/h speed limit on Ponsonby Road based on a petition by a few hundred busybodies.
  7. Interesting colour choice. As far as I know, this is a Japan-only special edition. I know of a guy on a german E34 forum who spent a fair amount of time and money tracking down the chrome interior doorhandles from this one so he could retrofit them to his car. What I am extremely jealous of are the wheels on this car - nice!
  8. The key is that the government has not yet committed to the proposals and they say that it is partially up to the degree of public support they receive. The upshot is that the only thing that can possibly sink at least some of the proposals is if they receive a large number of opposing submissions. A few angry letters to the editors of major newspapers could also help. I will certainly be doing my bit.
  9. It is not often that I get sufficiently worried to write this type of post, and I realise that I will probably attract a fair deal of criticism. However, cars (and BMWs in particular) are my passion - so here it goes. I believe that the recent proposals put forward by the Ministry of Transport under the title "Safer Journeys" would have far reaching negative implications for the average motorist. Amongst the bright ideas put forward are reducing speed limits on rural and urban roads, more speed cameras, more fines, etc. Essentially, the proposals extend the current enforcement approach even further. Full details of the proposals are provided here: Link At a basic level, I disagree with just about the whole lot because I do not consider that the current enforcement regime has achieved anything apart from dumbing down the driving experience in New Zealand, at considerable inconvenience to the average motorist. At a basic level, I believe that risk is inherent in driving and the best option is to, within reason, teach drivers how to manage risk, rather than to go down the futile path of trying to remove all risk. In my view, the current regime has resulted in an environment where any amount of inattention, stupidity or rudeness is OK, as long as you remain within the speed limit. I would rather focus my attention on the road rather than focussing on the speedo all the time to avoid paying speed tax. You might find the following information interesting: Further Information I believe it is important that the bureaucracy and the government hear the views of the average motorist rather than getting just the usual blanket endorsement that the AA usually provides. Therefore, whether you agree with me or disagree, I would encourage you to make a submission before 2 October 2009. At least that way the government will hear a wider variety of views. Now, I am ready to be flamed
  10. Good Morning I am looking for a glove box lock mechanism for an E30. I have the handle/lock that is visible from the outside, but it is the part that sits on the inside of the glove box that I need. If possible, I also need the small metal plate that sits on the underside of the dash (the two front screws are visible when the glove box is open) that holds the glove box light. Does anybody have these parts sitting around? Cheers.
  11. Unfortunately in New Zealand we have a history of the Police and transport officials using every opportunity to lobby the government to impose more and more laws or rules that are generally to the detriment of everybody. On the other hand, the Police does a pretty bad job of enforcing the current rules. The proposal to lower the alcohol limit is another sad example of this. From what I understand, there is no direct evidence that drivers who are below the current limit, but above the new proposed limit, pose any problem whatsoever. In usual Police manner, the logic seems to be that some other countries have tougher rules than us, so we must blindly follow suit. While some argue that one only needs to obey the rules to avoid punishment, that is rather difficult when the rules are plain stupid. For example, in Auckland, the contractors who put up traffic cones all around the city seem to think that it is perfectly OK to put a 30k speed limit on a main road (two busy lanes in each direction) because somebody is carrying out work down a side street. There is absolutely no risk involved in ignoring the signs, but I am sure that the cops would still be quite happy to fill their quota if given the opportunity to do so. Against a backdrop of poorly thought out rules we then have a Police force which is very selective in which rules it enforces. Doing 111k on a passing lane to get past slow drivers is a major sin, but I have never ever seen a cop give a logging truck driver a ticket for driving for 30k with a queue of 20 irate drivers behind them. OK, my rant is going off topic, but my view is that the Police has plenty of power and if they chose to apply their resources less selectively, they could deal with any emerging situation. We should expect them to finally start doing a better job with the current laws rather than spending their time lobbying for rules that are to the detriment of all of us. This is particularly true when these rules will be enforced by a Police force motivated by quotas rather than common sense. Just my 2c worth.
  12. I was quoted over $900 for an original part ex Germany. I was hoping that it is possible to achieve a considerable saving compared to that figure.
  13. I need to replace the rear muffler on the E30 convertible. The original from BMW is extremely costly, so I want to look at potential alternatives. I would be happy to look at anything, as long as it sounds and looks more or less the same as the original. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I may be able to get a decent muffler for a decent price. Thanks in advance for your help.
  14. Thanks for the help. Very interesting.
  15. Good Afternoon I recently bought a NZ New 1987 E30 325i Convertible. I have since obtained the options list from BMW and would like to find out how much the car would have cost when new. If anybody here has access to a 1987 BMW Price list, I would appreciate any help you could provide. Cheers
