  1. Hi everyone, I need some help. I purchased BMW 120i sports (2012 year) from a dealer in Auckland in September 2019. Since last few weeks I have been getting Flat Tyre Monitor (RPA) Failure and ABS (Drive stabilisation and Drive moderately) notification. After doing some online research regarding the tyre sizes I found out the tyres that were fitted in my car were 225/55/R17 and these measurements were not listed in the recommended tyre size list by BMW (found this list on the car body close to driver seat). Then took the car to the dealer he said they are wrong size tyres. He replaced the tyres to 225/45/R17. Since I purchased I have only driven roughly 7000 km. He said after changing the tyres to the right sizes the error will go away but it didn't. The failure notifications still shows up. The dealer advised I will have to pay for the fixing the failure. I am not sure if the failure is due to the car been driven with wrong size tyres or the sensors have failed overtime. He also mentioned the ABS and FTA sensors are separate which I don't agree with him. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Notification images attached.
  2. New member of approx 4/5 months the BMW owners club. I purchased a 2007 120i M-sport hatch and found out right away that the stock stereo and speakers in no way complimented this vehicle, therefore change was inevitable. After installation (completed by a reputable company) of high end audio equipment i found the xmas lights on the dash going haywire, losing power and finally dying, all this whilst driving! I have read a lot of posts explaining battery, regulator, wiring, connections and alternator. That being said i decided to have a new battery installed ($400 later) which was also completed by a reputable company. Once installed the confirmed that it was "accepted" by the vehicle. A couple of days later it happened again which got me researching and concluding that i needed the alternator out and checked. Once out the evidence is clear, worn pulley, covered in oil etc etc. Anyway it requires replacing. My question: As he I.D. number was worn off and for some unknown reason my vin number is being rejected by sites such as Bosch. I am wanting to know how would one find out if this is the factory alternator or a higher amperage one? If factory, would it be a worthy option of upgrading and to what? I will also be getting the belts changed at the same time. With the Alternator being changed will the car need to be coded for the new alternator? I have had a look on TM and this is what i found https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/electrics/listing-2606688132.htm?rsqid=387493c860df44b8ad054eb1f2754fde-001 unfortunately i cannot cross reference (numbers are worn) Please, if there is any other info needed let me know. Other than that i look forward to any advice given (hopefully not too technical) and more importantly getting her healthy and back on the road. Vehicle details: Year: 2007 Make: BMW Model: 120I Colour: WHITE Body Style: Hatchback Engine: N46B20 VIN: WBAUD32050PF47373
  3. Hey Team Our e87 04 120i has just majorly started smoking (blue/kinda white) on start up and while driving. Engine check light comes on and starts flashing, once the car is in park and idling the check light goes away. But if we leave it for a day of two it stops doing either.. No fault codes are staying up and every time we have taken it in it has stopped and ran fine. Its not using any water/no bubbles in radiator. Oil doesn't look milky from first inspection. Any Ideas? Was leaning towards valve steams but also possible piston ring failure? No major knocking sounds but is down on power even when its not smoking. It did start 'pinging' today how ever on start up... Am not driving the car atm until we have an idea of what is wrong.. Cheers Ace
  4. Hi guys, I know this has been asked many times before on the interwebs, but I just want to make sure I'm running the correct fuel here in NZ. Just bought a used 120i which was originally a Japanese import. The only owners manual I was able to find online is U.S.A. and doesn't cover this model (does anyone know where I can get a NZ 120i owners manual pdf?) In the U.S. manual it says: AKI 91 (RON 95) is highly recommended. You may also use gosoline with less AKI. The minimum AKI Rating is: - 128i: AKI 87 (RON 91) - 135i: AKI 89 (RON 93) Is the same model car tuned to use the same octane worldwide? i.e. RON 95 here in New Zealand. Or would it by any chance have been tuned differently for Japan? The guy I bought it off told me he had been using RON 91 while he owned it - which is why I'm confused. Thanks, Barry.
