AdeV 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 I've just bought a pair of Angel Eye headlight units that I want to fit to my E39 528i, now I am sure that this will sound like a dumb question to those of you out there who have fitted quite a few, but I'll ask it anyway ... how do I fit them to my car ??? they came with no instructions, and rather than struggle for a few hours I'd appreciate the guidance of the knowlegdable in order to avoid damage/mistakes/spanner throwing !!! Waiting with screwdriver in hand .... AdeV
hotwire 352 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 I take it you are fitting replacement lamps & not angel eye rings inside existing? 4 screws to remove headlight assy - 2 up top, 2 down, torx head from memory. Disconnect all plugs & remove lamp assy There are variations of replacement lamps out there - some plug & play, some require wiring mods, if unsure best to fit then get an auto sparky to wire them. DONT throw the spanner - you may break something!!

Are you waving your screwdriver around needing to remove the OE headlamps or wanting to know how to fit your new ones?

DONT throw the spanner - you may break something!! I bought two original items from a BMW dealer - bad move......expensive !!!! I just want to know how to get the old ones off without any damage and replace them with these OEM Angel Eyes. I can see the two top screws, they're quite obvious, I just can't see the bottom ones and obviously I am reluctant to cause damage. The lights came with two short loom modifications ??? not sure were they go either. It would be easier to fit candles I think. Pushing my luck now I know but it's worth asking, can you post me a photo of a front shot of an E39 with an arrow pointing at where to find the bottom two screws. One more question (might as well get my moneys worth!!) what about the electric headlight adjusters ?? where do they sit in relation to the units I am taking off, do I have to transfer them over?? waiting with hammer in hand !!! rgds, AdeV
AdeV 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 What kind of headlamps are they? DEPO? Are you waving your screwdriver around needing to remove the OE headlamps or wanting to know how to fit your new ones? BOTH !!!! how do I remove the old ones and how do I fit the new ones. I assume that once I've figured out how to get the old ones off without damage it's purely a process of reversing the procedure to fit the new ones, although it never actually seems to be that easy. I'd ask the BMW dealer that sold me the lights but he's already conned me once, don't fancy getting bitten for a second time.... kerching !!!!

Inside lower screw (torx head) is in line with inside upper (parallel with). Outside lower is on engine side of rubber boot that surrounds the main bulb. Headlight adjuster is the 4 wire plug at the centre top of the lamp - would expect new lamps to have those already.
