Jaredsc 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 Hi, just wondering what the next step is on removing a head unit from a 97 e36, used an allen key to loosen the screws, but unit doesnt slide out. I am not planning on replacing the unit, just removing so I can get to the back of it to install a band expander i bought. Also, how the hell do you change the sound mode from flat?? jochen 4 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 Hi, just wondering what the next step is on removing a head unit from a 97 e36, used an allen key to loosen the screws, but unit doesnt slide out. I am not planning on replacing the unit, just removing so I can get to the back of it to install a band expander i bought. Also, how the hell do you change the sound mode from flat?? the allen keys are not just screws, they move a retaining clamp. You have to unwind the allen key many many turns, keep going until it reaches the end of its travel (but don't force it) Then the clamps are retracted and the unit slides forwards. Jochen PS: Band expanders are crap.
Jaredsc 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 Yes I agree, band expanders ARE crap! What a waste of time and money. I had to saw a bit off the band expander to connect the euro adapter, cause it was a plug and wound'nt fit over top. Anyway, I taped it up, still no reception and the friggin thing wouldnt even sit back in the hole properly cause the thing was too big. Time for a new stereo I think, anyone got any recommendations? I need one with no CD in the front as I already have a factory changer in the boot.

3 SERIES 93 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 (edited) Hey, just removed my fact headunit from my e36. You just have to keen unwinding the little allen key screws untill they are quite loose. You have to unwind them quite a way. Once done just wiggle the headunit a bit and it should just ease out.
