bumpstop325 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 (edited) VAriable NOckenwellen Steuerung also known as VANOS. is variable camshaft control that allows the valve timing to be varied, enhancing low-to-medium speed, torque, emissions control and (depending on model) fuel economy. BMW uses 3-types of VANOS systems: Single VANOS, two-stage-operates on the intake camshaft only and provides two stages of valve timing. Single VANOS, steplessly variable-Used most commonly on the V-8 egines and only operates only on the intake camshaft. Varies the intake valve timing between two settingsbased on operating conditions. Double VANOS, steplessly variable-Operates on both the intake and the exhaust camshaft based on engine conditions. VANOS in my mind is more like toymota's VVTi not hondu VTEC.
