Guest Andrew Report post Posted May 6, 2004 We'll i've been away for a while - here is my story. We bought Graeme's 325 off him - and on the way home it dropped an exhaust valve - nothing to do with the motor swap or graeme i'd like to stress. The motor died a painful dead with bits of the valve ending up in every combustion camber. It looks like a valve seat fell out. So anyway - here I am with the pre-facelift orange e30 with a 325 dead motor in it. (I'll post some pics of the spark plug that got taken out and the piston that looks like someone chiseled it for days. What to do with it? Did I hear the work 325 project - yes I did. Anyhow - the (new) orange e30 is a farkin minter - paint is sweet - mechanically awesome. Here is the mod list for my new car. Fully rebuilt motor (all of it) Balanced, Blueprinted, Lightened crankshaft. Full head port and polish. Full new exhaust system. Jamex 40m springs with Bilstein Sports. Shortened diff ratio to ensure i beat all the other 325 cars on here. (Yes the car is quick even when the motor was dying). Urethane bushes. Modifed subframe for camber adjustment. Jamex seats (Damien come through for me please!) Replace full interior. Get the paint back to deep henna red. I guess stuff like new clutch and new shift bushings and every bit I can replace will come into it. Anyway - look forward to the new car in 3 weeks. My parents own my 320 now - at least i'll still be able to take care of it.
Guest Spargo Report post Posted May 6, 2004 Damn man, Gus was saying today at uni. Gutted for ya, but hey, 2.5Turbo is waaaay cooler than 2.0Turbo I'm sure it will work itself out, Graeme's (your) car is mint, so it can't be all bad?

Yes - turbo will delayed at least a year now - allthough this current setup will keep me happy (but not my wallet) for a while. Safe to say it'll be the quickest m20 325 on here. No F/I included. Grant 4 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 Andrew Sounds like a freak mechanical accident, but sounds as though you are making the best out of the situation, and in the longer term will have a car that we will all envy. Cheers
Gus 5 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 REAL freak cheers grant

E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 By the sounds of it your current engine is tip material!?!?! I hear a 2.7l coming on!! Then add a turbo and you may be close to keeping up. Here is something for you to think about. Stick my 323i head onto your 325 bottom end (replace damaged piston) and you will have a low compression 325i, find a suitable turbo (CT-26 from a MA70 supra)and bob's your uncle!! You could stick the link straight on because the 325 should not have a mechanical dizzy that you need to modify. Sounds grunty already!!
Guest Spargo Report post Posted May 7, 2004 (edited) you may be close to keeping up.I love your justified arrogance Realistically Glenn, do you see a boosted M/S50 keeping up with you? Edited May 7, 2004 by CiLK WuRM
Viking 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 I'd certianly hope a stripped E30 with a FI S50 would be faster mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Sorry Sam, I just love to tease, might encourage someone to knock me off my thrown. I'm not really an arrogant person, quite the opposite. You only need as much power and you should be just as quick M20/M50/S50 etc...
Guest Spargo Report post Posted May 7, 2004 You have current bragging rights on the forum, so fair play to ya. It's such a shame my intended route (bmw bits only) is going to cost so much more.
Guest Andrew Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Hmm - we were thinking we'd get the same 9:1 compression from your 323 head. I COULD turbo the motronic system. I don't have the coin for the link anymore - well OK I do but heh this is getting really expensive.

E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 I thought it would be a fair bit less than 9.0:1cr the 323 head has the same shape combustion chamber as the e head and pistons, say like this: (( The i heads and pistons are: || Combine and get: (| That was my logic!?!?! According to the mechanic he doesn't think it will have a domed head.
