Mike 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 (edited) with 17's you can get away with a higher (numerical) offset than the smaller diameter wheels due to the angle of the strut. I don't really see the point in going much wider than 8" as you cant get tyres any wider in suitable sizes. You could run a 235/40 and that will be a bit bigger OD than stock, I think some manufacturers also make a 245/35 which would be pretty badass on 8" (minimum) rears but I don't think you'd want that on the front, and 245 is pretty big for e30. FWIW- you want around ET25 for 7.5", and you should get away with stock guards 8" wide you want to run around ET20 (probably guard work though you may get away with ET25 for a 17" wheel and not have to roll guards. Is staggered an option? Most people say it stuffs up the handling but alpina did it with 7" front and 8" rear? Edited July 7, 2007 by Mike
bravo 35 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 17x7 ET25 should prob just clear the guards. 17x7 ET20 needed ever so slight rolling on mine. 17x7 35 still clears the struts but doesn't fill the arches so well. On that basis, 17x8 would want ET25 or less as stated and guard rolling likely.
Gus 5 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 (edited) http://www.comp.co.uk/wheels/wheels.asp?range=MO5_0005 MO1775 in 17x7.5 et 21 got that offset using this http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp sound about right? staggered and 7/8 would be cool, if possible to get it though! their site doesnt seem to have the same type of wheel in those sizes, maybe a staggered 7/7.5? bravo 35 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 (edited) You'd have to roll the guards a bit at that offset. Go ET26. Easily clear the struts and only very slight rear guard rolling required. ET30 would be better, but they don't make it in that wheel. It will also depend on the tyres you choose aswell of course.
