Andrew 30 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Magna International, Canada’s largest automobile parts manufacturer that is responible for the Magna Steyr cars, is in talks with BMW on developing a new MINI SUV. According to Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail, the SUV would be called the Mini Colorado with 65,000 units assembled annually at Magna’s plant in Graz, Austria. Magna spokeswoman, Tracy Fuerst, told Reuters that “reports of potential future BMW and Volkswagen assembly programs are speculative and, as a matter of policy, we will not comment on themâ€. BMW previously said that it plans to pull production of the BMW X3 out of the Magna Steyr plant and transfer it over to its plant in South Carolina. “So their assembly facility in Graz, Austria, would be significantly under-utilized and obviously these new programs would help a lot in filling that production hole,†David Tyerman, an analyst at Scotia Capital, told Reuters.
