SRS LIGHT ON

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I have a BMW e38 728i 1996. The SRS light has come on, I purchased a 1.36 PA Soft diagnostic cable and setup the software on my laptop. I diagnosed the car and it came up with (under the SRS diagnostics) Error 6, it also came up with many errors under different sections of the car. Does anyone know where to get hold of a DTC or diagnostics code book, or a website which has it. I believe Error 6 on the SRS unit specifies an Internal module fault, can anyone confirm this? Thanks, Jason

Some scan tools give false error information 6 means nothing unless you have the fault code list from the software manufacturer. If you are in Auck I can check it for you. Both our scan tools give faults showing as specific faults ie:

"passengers occupancy sensor" " firing circuit, belt pretensioner (drivers side)" These also show a manufacturers fault code number & BMW number. 06 in Bosch system says passengers occupancy sensor or firing curcuit. You need to check it more specificaly with a better scanner.

Hope that helps

Glenn

I agree with Glenn.

Where e38's are concerned you really need to find the BMW specific codes and a general code reader wont help you much.

Most common fault with the E38 Airbag Check the plug on the pasangers seat belt pretensioner and then reset the airbag code!!
