Andrew 30 Report post Posted August 27, 2007 Now that Daimler (still named DaimlerChrysler) has divorced Chrysler, is the German giant ready to start dating again? According to an unidentified Mercedes executive who spoke with German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, a partnership with BMW could be in the works. The Mercedes executive told the German Magazine that a partnership with BMW could be a “true marriage made in heaven. Finally, we could cooperate with a company that is only two hours away from us, speaks the same language and has the same target customer.†BMW spokesman declined to comment on the report, however BMW has been talking of possibility of closer relations with Daimler. BMW’s Marketing Chief, Michael Ganal has previously told a German newspaper that BMW wants to strengthen its relationship with rival Mercedes-Benz. “Cooperation is the right approach because it allows both carmakers entrepreneurial freedom,†BMW sales and marketing chief Michael Ganal told Wirtschaftswoche. Daimler CEO, Dieter Zetsche, told analysts last month that Daimler is “cooperating with BMW in hybrids and would welcome other opportunities.
