Cale 36 Report post Posted September 8, 2007 Hi all, Can't get a warrant as the left hand brake has no effect whatsoever when handbrake is applyed, but right side is all good. Likely cause? A parking brake actuating rod or guide: a) is excessively corroded, or b ) is excessively worn, or c) has otherwise deteriorated so that it may affect the parking brake performance. 30. A parking brake component shows signs of heating or welding after original manufacture. And more importantly in your case: Reasons for rejection Parking brake 35. When the parking brake is applied: a) the vehicle does not stop within 18 m from a speed of 30 km/h (average brake eiffciency of 20%), or b ) it does not hold the vehicle at rest on a slope of 1 in 5, or c) it does not hold all the wheels on a common axle stationary against attempts to drive the vehicle away. Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted September 8, 2007 (edited) Handbrake has 2 cables, one for each side. Take the cover off from around the handbrake lever inside your car and you'll see where both cables finish at the base of the handbrake. See if the left side one is tensioned properly, or if its loose, tighten if necessary and check handbrake again. If this doesn't help, or the cable seems tight it'll be a problem at the rear wheel. Take the rear wheel off, Remove the calipers, and and use a 5mm allen key to remove the rear brake disk, opening up the handbrake mechanism. Make sure your handbrake's off when you go to remove the disk, or it won't move. May be siezed, or worn, or come apart, I've seen all the above happen.
