jimbo01 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2007 The 323 and 325 engine are basically the same; a 2.5 litre inline 6 - although the 323 (on paper) was detuned. Thats what to do when your range topper (excluding the M3) is a mere 300cc bigger than another model - change the numbers and make it seem even smaller. Keeps the premium price up. Our manual for our 323 has it rated at 125kw - the 328 was rated at about 140kw (or so), and was exactly what the earlier 325 had been rated at. It was suggested to us that BMW detuned it due to some reliability issues with the 325 (yeah right) and that essentailly was a ECU thing - ours had either been re-chipped - or it was - as I've suggested a paper exercise for marketing reasons. jimbo01 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2007 Jimbo needs to get in touch with some facts and not regurgitate the incorrect assertions he listed earlier. yes the 323 and 325 share the same bore and stroke but that is where it ends. The whole inlet tract , valve timing etc was designed to meet a new set of criteria. Lift is lower , duration is shorter and the power delivery is very different as a consequence . What asertions did I make that I am reguritating earlier? - I only made the one post in this thread. Anyway when they introduced the 330 what did they call the 3 series with the 2.5 litre engine - the 325! And what was your point - that the 323 engine was actually the better engine even though on paper it only claimed 125kw?

lidistick 70 Report post Posted September 13, 2007 Look at the torque figures and look at where it makes peak torque. That's your clue
chimera 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 (edited) hey, well, i've finally got me a bimmer. just bought it on the weekend, settled on a '97 E36 323i. its a jap import but in mint condition, only a couple of small scratches on it, interiors immaculate and 69km's (odometer certified) on the clock. got the bmw 17" alloys and M3 (I think??) front on it. i also gotta 3 year mechanical warranty with it for peace of mind. unfortunately not the best pic, but heres one from the dealers site when it was sitting in japan... now since the 323 is basically a detuned M52 328 engine (plus a few other differences of course) and its 25HP less than my current vtec integra not to mention a heavier vehicle, can someone point me in the right position to get some gg's outta this beast only thing that i wanna replace (seems everyones in the same boat) are they psychidellic disco orange indicators. gah they are ugly. too damn expensive though, whats the average price that people are paying for clear ones? cher Edited September 17, 2007 by Andrew

madandy 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) Looks good alright. Same wheel style as mine but 17" instead of ghey 15's and the Front bar I'm after as well for my new 328i sedan. lol. how much you pay for that if ya don't mind? Also, from an earlier post: M52TUB28 142 kW (190 hp) @ 5500 280 N·m (207 ft·lbf) @ 3500 6500 1998. That cannot be correct. The power peaking at 5500rpm yet max torque is held to 6500rpm?! that would imply that peak HP must in fact be at or above 6500rpm. torquexrpm/5252 & all that clever maths stuff Maybe peak toque is 3500 - 5500rpm with peak power at 6500rpm ? chimera 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2007 how much you pay for that if ya don't mind?hard to say exactly coz i negotiated down a little bit although also got a 3 year mechanical warranty thats worth about $1500 dollars. so i could look at it as either a good price on the warranty or a good price on the car lets just say in the $10k's. not too bad from a dealer and it really is in pristine condition. i know privately they are cheaper however most of them that i saw had done around the 150km's+ this has only done 69km's. there is another E36 '97 323i on the yard at the moment with bbs mags and they're wanting $12k for it - its only done 33kms. they sold 3 bmws over the weekend, i had to queue up to pay for it when i picked it up tonight
