Grant 4 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 The key thing is, people will still vote for him.. hahah You must remember that a large proportion of the population in the USA consists of highly conservative, traditional, christian, lower-middle class, highly patriotic people, who feel that anything that goes against this way of life is bad (be it Muslim or Gay) and will blindly support and leader that looks like they are trying to retain their traditional values.GWB (and his advsiors) work very hard at saying that is what they are trying to do, and his support base genuinly believe that he is. That is how he gets votes, and why he is in power. Here in NZ we whould be thankful that we are a bit more open minded than that, and can take a much broader view of the world and can see what an idiot he is. GWB is no less dangerous, and a no less of a threat to world stability than any of the people he is trying to eliminate. Anyway, that is my take on it all. Didn't Osama strike the U.S. in retaliation for Clintons missile strikes in the middle east? Democracies are responsible for their leaders, the U.S. can't oust GWB and then Pontius Pilotly wash their hands clean, the damage that's been created in Iraq is irreversable. The next election in in November.The candidate against GWB is John Kerry, a Democrat. It will be interesting, to see what happens. I see the popular vote for GWB is ever decreasing. November is not too far away, so reversing the damage to GWB's credibility will be a monster task for his spin doctors. Take Iraq for example, as a result of the 1991 invasion, and the ensuing embargos they estimate up to 1.5 million Iraqis have died as civilian casualties during the war, plus disease, famine & all that good stuff that follow wars. Its more like "we know whats best for everyone." A large number of the items on that list pertain to stamping out Communism. Take Italy 1947-48, despite the fact that the strength of communism was probably the single largest force fighting the nazis in Italy in WWII, the US launched a massive campaign including bribery (eg- cancelling $1billion of government debt... in 1947 $ thats a mountain of cash), racial discrimination (eg- refusing all immigrants from Italy & Americans from going to Italy), huge PR campaign Hollywood style to the Italian public etc. ... and how hypocritical is this... quote from President Truman on March 12 1947 (The Truman Doctrine) "I believe it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures.
