BMW planning second Progressive Activity Sedan

BMW doesn’t plan to introduce its first Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS) until the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009, but is already planning a second smaller variant.

The first PAS will be based on the 5-Series and is said to be a more spacious and functional four-door sedan that is lighter and sportier than a station wagon.

“If the first PAS is successful, we could add a second, smaller model based on the same architecture idea,” said Klaus Draeger, BMW board member for development.

Draeger said BMW is still debating what to call the PAS, but said BMW will not use the letter V.

If BMW builds a smaller PAS, it will be built on the platform of the 3-Series. If the car is approved it could go on sale early next decade.

BMW will be adding three new 4×4s to its lineup within the next three years. Of course the first addition will be the much anticipated X6 crossover. That will be followed by the already confirmed BMW X1 and the long rumored Mini’s 4×4 Colorado.

Ahh, a five door lift-back. How original!
