HELP...Intermittant fault.....

Recommended Posts

HI,

Every now and again, my car simply wont start.

I put the key in, turn it to the start position and despite all the lights coming on and all everything electrical working fine...............nothing happens, not a click, nothing.

Then, for if I leave it for a while and come back............generally it starts again.

So my car is parked up, not at home, and wont start.

HELP!!! Could something electrical be overheating? a problem with the starter motor?? I dunno.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Fusible link? Often a catch all for all things electrical in the E34

Didn't you have trouble with your sunroof too Mark?

Yip. The sunroof did it once. The ignition has done it probably 6-8 times in the past two months. How does one fix this problem?? I tried fiddling with the wires around the ignition to see if any were loose, the first time it happened this was the case, but since then, the issue just seems random.

I'd guess that it's very unlikely to be an ignition or ignition wiring problem

Check this out E34.net - fusible link

If it all looks fine, then we're back to the drawing board

Thanks mate, will check this out. I 'crash' started it now that the person in front of me has left. Nows its working fine.

Will check out the fusible link as suggested.

dont think the fusible link works the key (just the fan ,wipers etc)

likly to be faulty starter soliniod .

try hitting the starter with a hammer or broom handle if it does it again , while you turn the key

LOL!!! I dont generally carry a broom with me in the car.............mental note to self, buy broom for car.

Cheers Brent. Will have a look at the connections on the starter.
