Grant 4 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 I'm afraid you have no choice, you are in for a replacement steering rack. There are no fixes. I went through the same thing at the end of last year. Budget for about $700 - $1,000 for a replacement recondiotioned rack, or see if you can buy a second hand one from somewhere. Oh yeah, I should qualify this by assuming that the seals are leaking. Cheers.
bimmer boy 21 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 yeah the same thing happend to my mums car a couple weeks ago , it was resonably expensive to fix. but once its fixed you dont have to worry about it breaking again for a while
m325i 709 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 well i knew it was dead when i bought it but it only leaked slowly. Now it pisses out, something happened cause this has only happened in the last day.
Grant 4 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 I am assuming that it was just seeping past a seal to begin with, now the seal has fully blown. Believe me, you need to replace the rack. Cheers

Grant 4 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Took it to BMWorkshop. Rack was dead, and neede re chroming(?). Hope i wasnt swindled but it cost .... $1039!!! Ouch :banghead: Yeah, thats about right. It cost me around $980 (including the rechroming), and was quoted approx $750 if mine didn't require rechroming (for a replacement reconditioned rack, including installation).Cheers
