37 South 6 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 showing my E30 ignorance but what is in the "IS" engine wise.. The 318 is M42 engine has a max.power output of 103 kw..(318 i, has 85 kw.) Claimed top speed (318 is ) is 213 k. The 320i (e36) in comparison , puts out 110 kw.. not a lot of difference, from the chain driven twin cam M42 engine..
