martyyn 2 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 (edited) Here's the deal. As nice as the touring is the wife prefers her Focus wagon (dont ask) and we dont need two wagons. I still have the e30 but its too small for me, so Im looking for something bigger (a 5 or 7). For the right car Im prepared to spend my whole budget but I have some exacting standards. Im also happy to buy something cheaper and spend the rest on getting it sorted, but I have little time with a young family and so would probably have to pay someone to do it. Anyway, this is what I want in the end (in no particular order). Manual (preferably from the off as a swap will cost plenty) 3l as minimum, so m535, 535is, 540is, 735i that sort of thing. Either on a sports suspension or able to be done. LSD Leather (preferably 'real' recaro's or in the case of an e28 M5 leather would be the aim), if heated then even better. Colours (red, dark dark grey, silver or black), possibly shadowlined depending on the colour. Wheels (Alpinas - possibly style 5's) Body kit ? Not so bothered, depends on the model of car I suppose. E28's can look superb without one but some e34's look too bulky with one, again I think colour is a big factor in this. Aircon is nice, but not a show stopper, as is a sunroof. Basically its time for something that goes like stink, sticks like sh!t to a blanket and looks the part, I want it mint inside and out. This is going to be my daily as well though, so it needs to be able to put up with a bit of traffic too to and from work. So anyone know of anything for sale or have any suggestions ? I know about the two m535's on trademe at the moment, but I dont want white and the blue one in Wellington needs an awful lot of work doing to it to get it road worthy again. Im prepared for a project but perhaps thats a little too much right now. Two examples Cheers Martyn Edited May 10, 2008 by Penry
topcat 11 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 so many options.thats a real problem. I suggest you find a tidy body, with all the specs your keen on. couple of e34/e32's on TM have gone for very reasonable prices.just a matter of the unfortunate leg work. Find a nice cheap/tidy one, with a preferable blown head gasket. then buy my 400+hp motor. marry the two togther. spend alittle time and $$ on sum good springs and bilsteins from ebay(just bought a set of 4 for under 750,landed) and there is your new pride and joy,and be the envy of several BS members. cost i estimate round the 9(?) would sell you the manual e23,but grant reckons hes going to pull through after 16 odd months just my $0.02 marty
mr E34 11 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I'll take the E28 Alpina (red car), put it on a transporter immediately! Are any of those cars suitable for DAILY DRIVERS? Hard work with big engines/manual/fuel costs. E34 540i auto? Dunno, tricky when you are using it as a daily.

martyyn 2 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 You have no idea how tempting it would be to put Marty's engine in something, but as someone who gets by with changing wheels, bulbs, oil and filters swapping a 400bhp motor is a little beyond my comfort zone !
