Chur I'm sure there are many "buyers guides" out there that will be of assistance. But why do you want a 520i? Apart from a few ex-UK examples, the majority will be from Singapore. They are a bit of an old slug and will probably have electrical gremlins being ex-Singapore. Try an NZ-new 523i instead with good service history. There are quite a few on TM at the moment. Yuen 16 Report post Posted June 10, 2008 I haven't driven a 520 but a friend whose dad owns one says it is underpowered. E39 523 is fine but could do with a little more when you need it, 528 feels just nice. I doubt there would be a big difference in fuel economy. Possible problems: ABS (see it mentioned in forums a fair bit) Broken cupholders Broken headlight adjusters (not so much of a problem on pre-facelift headlights)
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted June 10, 2008 Cupholders of any description will be new to me,I have never had a car with them before! Is the fuel economy any good on them or is power-weight just stupid and hence a crappy fuel consuming car? I have a good one I want to get in mind and it is VERY reasonably priced...<4k with full leather/woodtrim etc etc for a 1996.Just need to figure out if it's worth buying, probably wont touch it for a while. jochen 4 Report post Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) power-weight just stupid Yup. Don't get the tiny litle 520. Best is 530, 528 or 525 is OK, 540 is nice :-) I had the 540, and I cannot recall ever having insufficient power..... Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted June 11, 2008 Power is not a huge problem for me as it'll most likely be garaged for a while, while I add and subtract bits from it. Have pretty much bought a 520 and should hopefully have it on Monday morning. Cheers for the help guys, will keep ya posted
