Hi Glenn.

Normally they have separate spring kits for both but in this case the way they have been designed with the progression and linear spring rates (designed a certain way in this kit )( too much too go into), that they can work in both, good that you noticed though it's always worth saying something to ensure the right part goes in the right car.

Cheers Keith.

Thanks for that Keith. Does this only apply to the kit he has ???

Doesn't sound correct at all, might pay to check with the manufacturer. Never heard of magic springs that can distinguish the engine size/weight of a car and automatically adapt their length/rate to suit. :o

Quite correct Jono, I think you may have misunderstood, there are no springs that can distinguish the weight of a car and adapt their length, but the way a spring is designed (variable rate) progression whatever you wan't to call it can be made in such a way to determine how the spring will react to different pressures or weight etc, I could go into the design and curve and spring gaps and tell you what each part of the front spring of Part # 29485 does and why, but It would mean typing on here for 2 hours, needless to say this Part # has been tested by the German TUV in both 4 and 6 cylinder when the car was first released and wouldn't be allowed to be sold if it hadn't past this very stringent test, the TUV results can be found on www.h-r.com

I'm just gathering information about lowering a e46 328ci so have been going through all bmw forums about springs & shocks.

Looking through the H&R website, there isn't a "29485-1" spring, there is a "29485" used by 323-330 which looks like 6 cylinder models. No springs specified for the 316-320 4 cylinder models.

They have different springs for cars with & without factory sport suspension too, 29485 is for cars without factory sport suspension.

Hi Tony.

The USA catalogue differs from the German catalogue in the way that they list their parts, the 29485 Part is sold around the world for E46 and is the same everywhere as they are all made in Germany, they have the numbers 29485 printed on the front and rear and are painted a dark metallic blue, if you look on the German website www.h-r.com you can see the part number and also click on the PDF file to get the TUV approval stating the axle weights etc. Cheers Keith.
