normsmith 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem to mine where my E90 factory stereo only picks up mp3s on certain CDs. I burned a collection of stuff and only some of them worked. All CDs work on my computer and also on my friends car stereo. Cheers Norm
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Check to see if your MP3s are VBR (varible bitrate) mp3s, also check that you burnt the CD at 16x and not at 48x. Most CD media doesnt really burn well at this rate and a lot of CD/Data play back devices struggle with the errors generated from these hi burn speeds. Also make sure your using qaulity media like sony / verbatium / 3m etc etc. I take it your burning a data CD ? the rules are very similar for audio CDs Another thing could be is you burning a multi session CD. Select 'no multi session' or 'close CD after burn'. These are some basic reasons however it could be the mode type the CD is being burnt in may not be supported in your BMW. Yes, I am burning a data cd and not an audio cd. A friend of mine had a similar problem when trying to play audio cds burnt on his computer. He solved the problem by burning them at 1x speed. It took ages but it worked. I'll give it a crack burning at lower speeds and see what happens. Thanks
sp8s 1 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 I would also ask what program are you using to burn cd's Are they being burned as MP3's or converted by the burning program I ask because some programs convert the music as a lot of car stereos cant play mp3's Personally I use Musicmatch to make cd's to play in the car, works every time. You will know by how many songs you get on a cd Each song as mp3 is about 5 megs so divide 700 by 5 = 140 Converted to play on non mp3 player you will get about 12 songs

Look into the mode that your CD is being burnt at. I know my e46 nav CD (different kettle of fish) didnt like mode 2 discs, Also try closing the disc or not loading the burning session as multi session. The burn at slow speed thing is more and audio CD thing. again try different types of CD media too.
