gc8r 38 Report post Posted September 10, 2008 I love it! Best money spent ever! (even if it was $1200) Made the car smoother and it pulls much better too! Shocking thing was that 21 valves needed readjustment as they werent opening fully but all replaced with new shims and now its just going like a mad red dog! (Yes my car's name is Clifford ) The gearbox oil (ATF Dexron III), diff oil (castrol XJ 75w140), spark plugs and the micro filter was done too. Now Hans the service manager in Silverfield Jerry's has told me I will have to do the rear shock mounts and flex discs or guibo couplings soon because they are worn and cracked like theres no tomorrow. Overall I got a nicely groomed car inside and out including the engine, and a happy M3 owner
CamB 48 Report post Posted September 10, 2008 (edited) Shocking thing was that 21 valves needed readjustment as they werent opening fully but all replaced with new shims and now its just going like a mad red dog! (Yes my car's name is Clifford ) I reckon my car needs it. It just doesn't feel as smooth as I'd expect at idle/low revs. Edited September 10, 2008 by CamB
Mark 178 Report post Posted September 10, 2008 Best $1200 dollars you ever spent? You'd hope so! Get those rear shock mounts seen to ASAP... they'll tear the shock towers apart otherwise and the last thing you want to be doing is welding your M3 back together! Well have you tried Euro- Italian the forum sponsors? I found them to be the cheapest out even without the 15% discount. Immaculate service too. Mark 178 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 thats what im thinking AFAIK you dont use atf in a manual trans ATF fluid is used in many manual BMW gearboxes. What are you putting in yours??!! .... um and if you're not sure what an Inspection II service is, perhaps you better have one done, because your poor M3 probably needs it! Why would I have an auto M3 thats sin lol Anyway, diff oil, gearbox, microfilter, and valves and shims need to be adjusted every 30000-40000kms on our cars. And yes you do use ATF. It actually says on the lid of where you put the gearbox oil "ATF Only"

gc8r 38 Report post Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) Yep, it's all well documented in the manual . I definitely think I need to get this sorted too! Taking her in next week for a thorough checkup. Its worthwhile getting this service done on our M3's because they are basically 14 year olds cars and yours has been on the track . Also Hans told me that the bloody stupid previous owners (except the one just before me) hadnt done the inspection two and valve adjustment/shimming done for quite some while So after doing that I have a piece of mind about the car.
