My new 540i m-sport

Recommended Posts

Finally the 540i motorsport has arrived.

Looks good as. Just wondering are their many other people on this forum that have one of these cars. What are they like to drive and fuel wise. Ive actually never driven a 5 series yet. but bought one. lol.

Im a little aprehensive coming from the 740i I have. I love that car. But people say these are fun.

Whats people experiences with these. is there anything I should know about them??

I pick her up at the start of october. cant wait.

EDIT: added pictures and spelling

nice buy!

being a one owner car u cant go wrong providing the ceo has kept up with the service schedule. At those kms, i'd get the cooling system inspected. The shocks may need to be replaced if not already. Get it to a bmw specialist for a once over when u receive it.

Hey Swiggs-nice buy. You're goanna love it.Very different to drive than the 7-heaps more fun.

I took my 97,which has factory m-sport suspension, for its first serious stomp(& I mean serious) last Sunday around some of HBs back roads(about 2 hrs & a bit illegal) & I was buzzing. Most fun I've had since I sold my Cosworth.

Mate,October wont come fast enough!!!

With your experience of the 7 your 5 wont hold any surprises-mechanically.Very similar

Enjoy!! :)

Hey guys thanx.

I could pick her up tommorrow but have a few commissions to be paid out before I can pick it up. Bloody business.

Where could I get the angel eyes etc from and whats the price i should expect. Have already had this thought in my mind. I would also love to have xenon lights installed as well.

Is this a hard thing to do?

Get onto Trademe and search for user "eurolights" Has different versions etc.

From what I have heard the product is excellent. Angel eyes - clear repeaters - tail lights etc

I personally would only go genuine Hella. With angel eyes and dependent on the type of rear lights you'll need ballasts, otherwise every time you get in the car the check display will come up with faults. Could even damage the lights.

If you buy genuine it is guaranteed to work properly 100%, as I found out on my fathers e39.

Just finished installing a set of genuine celis clear tails and they do look amazing, we've had problems with another set that didn't have ballasts, and to be honest I wouldn't go through those troubles again.

OEM also looks way better, has better a fitment and won't trigger faults.

So theres my plug for OEM and Hella. But seriously you've bought a mint car mate, IMO keep it original OEM.

My 2c,

Nick

+1,

Very nice e39, much more agile than the 7er I'd say, enjoy it!

Congrats

Great purchase, I've done 5000Kms in mine in last 6 weeks since I've had it, it is so sweet to drive. I also notice my wife takes it whenever she gets a chance. I'm finding the power and noise addictive and passing cars (multiple!) has moved onto another planet.

mint.

I think these cars are pretty much stacked up with everything you need in the original setup anyway.

Just been looking around and there seems to be two sets of angle halos to choose from. they seem to be the cheap ones and then the expensive ones.

I think I will go fr expensive ones. When it comes to BMW they are more pricey but at the end of the day are of great quaity. U get what u pay for i think

If the build date is after September 2001, then you can reprogram the radio from Japan mode to Euro mode using nothing more than your fingers.

You can also make the entire nav and telephone system work in NZ if you want.

haha sh*t!!

i just checked out the build date and ccording to the vin record it was march 01. and then asked about the radio and it cant be done. now that does suck.

And aparently the dvd rom doesnt work in nz as well.

Is there anything that can be done to make all this fully functionable?

Jochen and Hotwire can fill you in, but basically you just have to replace the jap units for european ones.

yea i thought so. and how expensive are they...

maybe a job to do at a later date.

PM 'Hotwire'. He's got the kits apparently and would be able to cost it for you.

Cheap compared to the price of the car.

I've also seen invoices for fitting of band expanders to BMWs, whereby a replacement radio (that I organised and fitted) was CHEAPER than the fitting of the band expander.

Look at eBay Germany for a radio, maybe you'll get lucky.

Otherwise HotWire normally has 1 or 2 in stock.

Same for nav: 2nd hand replacement is the easy cheap way to go. New is around $6,000.

All systems can be made to work 100% in NZ (radio, nav, TV, telephone). You just have to change from Jap spec to Euro spec.

hey have had look and there seem to be a couple of the pro ones there. I aint no good at speaking german though.

Its a bit of a pain how the jap and the euro spec is different.

Is there much else different between the euro and jap cars apart from these things.
