BMW 528i Powersteering Oil Carrier

Something strange happened to my 528i, I opened the bonnet to replace my bulbs and found a hole near the top of the Oil Carrier, seems like something hard had struck it and created a small tear in the thick plastic with some residual marks a little further down the carrier. Has this ever happened to anyone else or am I just unlucky?

I'm still wondering how and what caused it, however is it easy enough for me to replace myself or should I be getting a professional to do it?
