shadowninja 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 (edited) Lunch time today got hit from behind by a Subaru Legacy. For all you Welly members, it was the intersection of Taranaki Street & Courtney Place. Picture attached of the damage to my car, but you shoulda seen the other car. Front bumper munted, bonnet folder, both front lights gone, front grill... could be a write-off. I hope the guy has insurance, he was on a learners license. 318Touring 40 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 (edited) Bugger!!! Have you checked the panel that houses the spare tyre etc.? Sometimes in this situation it gets affected and rippled, although I don't think it will be in your case. Which panelbeater you're going to send the car to? That intersection is quite dangerous with people running red lights or trying to catch the green-amber phase, and U-turning, Edited August 29, 2004 by 318Touring
Viking 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Looks like the suspension sprung back out, if it didnt and those are busted he's in for a not pretty repair bill.

Carl 3 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Sorry to hear about your precios prize shadow, although it looks like you've come off unscathed...how the hell did he run up your arse? Who was with him, given that he's on a learners and shouldn't be driving alone???
shadowninja 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Its a danger intersection alright... though mostly people doing the opposite of what I was doing... trying to race the orange light through the intersection. I kinda feel sorry for the guy, even though he messed with my ride. After I thought about it even if he has insurance it probably won't cover him seeing as he's in breach of his license. That means he'll probably be out of pocket some thousands of $$ to fix my car, plus his own one will be close to written off. In terms of panel beaters, I will probably go to Arlingtons seeing as they specialise in the Euro-trash (bimmers, mercs, porsches etc).

You'd be suprised how much damage a towbar can save if someones runs up the back of a car fitted with one, the reason why most taxis get them fitted when buying one new.Bugga about the car though, and I hope the guy is cooperative since theres no insurance. shadowninja 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I'm covered with Medical Assurance Society, where I work. We are a niche market provider of finance, insurance & investments for medical professionals. In terms of parts, it was the rear bumper cover, support panel, brackets... I haven't seen the full list yet.
*sic 1 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 3.5k for a buff damn that was more than my car to be resprayed, get a 'NEW' rear cyber bumper and have rear end damage fixed at the same time!!! and i got 200 change from that 3.5k for piss and ladies too! you got bent over and slammed for that cash even though its payed insurance wise
shadowninja 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 you got bent over and slammed for that cash even though its payed insurance wiseThats what we like so much about you sic... your tact & discretion. It starts at $1,300 just for the bumper cover. Not to diss your ride, but brand new E46 BMW parts may cost more than 2nd hand Honda parts. We had a professional loss adjuster involved, so I'm 100% happy that the cost is fair & reasonable. That being said $3K for a respray seems very inexpensive, though from the pics of your ride you've posted it looks like a pretty good job. As a 'BMW Individual' colour, Episol Blue costs about an extra $8,000 over & above the cost of the standard paint job on a new car.

Napier_E36 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2004 (edited) ....seriously your insurance co got played.thats alright - its only his insurance, if he had to pay for it its a different story, however with insurance, get it done properly!! Even if it means paying top dollar... I mean, thats what you pay the premiums each year for isnt it?I dont think that price was too bad considering that they have used new parts and not just second hand ones (like most repairers seem to use...) So whens the beast making its return? still on track for monday? thats quite a quick repair! Edited September 4, 2004 by Napier_E36
shadowninja 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2004 (edited) Sic clearly you know more about parts prices, repair costs and paint jobs than one of the most respected private loss adjusters in Wellington, who supervises the repairs of thousands of vehicles every year. Obviously you also know more about cars and repairs than our claims department who pay out millions of dollars each year in repairs. Don't be so quick to pass judgement. I'm always going to leave it with the pros when it comes to something like this. And besides, the guy who is going to have to pay it in the end is the poor kid that ran into the back of me. *sic 1 Report post Posted September 4, 2004 im just saying for that price you could have played it smart and got some extras. but you didnt. your loss
shadowninja 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2004 'Extras'? What do you mean by extras? Not on the insurance company's invoice thats for sure. I'm not into 'pimping' my ride neither! The whole idea of having a loss adjuster involved is that the car is fixed back to its pre-accident state, no more & no less. That way when the other driver/insurance company gets the bill they can't argue about it. I've personally been to a number of Disputes Tribunal cases, not to argue liability (ie- who was at fault in the accident) but people trying to argue about the quantum of repair costs. The loss adjuster protects everyone's best interests: 1. Insurance company pays fair & reasonable cost 2. Ensures the car is fixed properly (ie- not dodgy 2nd hand or generic parts for a near-new BMW) 3. Justifies the true repair cost to any third party involved. "Oh yes my Remus exhaust was damaged in the accident, as was the case of vintage French Champagne in the boot."
