replace keyless entry for BMW 320

Recommended Posts

the rubbery part of my key is damaged but the lock and unlock button still work fine.

Jeff Gray said they can't replace the rubber part and they've to order a new key which cost $400

Does anyone know of alternatives... all I need is to replace the (black) housing potion of the key.

Thanks

Best bet would be to find a key from a written off car or a lock set on trade me, and switch the little chip over. Or just get a new one.

The keys are not designed to be repaired, so any repair is a DIY.

Remember: the electronic part (immobilisier chip) is coded to your immobiliser

The mechanical part (key blade) is cut to fit the mechanical lock

So with a DIY repair, you need to retain your mechanical and electrical part.... and somehow cut open and replace the plastic casing.

Not easy...

Short answer is...buy a new key (xGermany- coded key) and if you only have 1....buy 2

Edit: Your car seems to have alot of issues.. who checked it before you purchased it ??

Indeed, car had a split expansion tank like many other E46.

Cost $500 for parts, labour, coolant, radiator pressure test.
