Is this a dealer only purchase & do they require coding,(dealer quote 4 barrel $200 ex Germany) which I didnt think was too bad compared to a key at $400!! Will be genuine only - that price doesn't sound too bad. Barrel itself wont need coding. Maybe a good locksmith can do something with your one?? jochen 4 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 Tip: if the mechanical key barrel is that worn, then you should also consider replacing the electrical part at the same time. The E39 ignition switches wear and cause all sorts of electrical "gremlins" due to bad contacts. So if the mechanical part is old and worn, the electrical part will be as well....
