Idle

Recommended Posts

Just trying to get a few things sorted out on the 325i

When you rev it up and let of the accelerator, the revs drop below normal idle, neraly stalling the car, and then go back to normal idle again. Its getting a bit annoying becasue it stalls itself at intersections etc

Cheers for the help

Nick

ICV I would guess.

In the e36, if its clogged, it causes surges at idle. A common problem, and a pretty easy one to check.

^^ I agree.

I had the same symptoms as yourself and it was a dirty ICV.

First of all i would check the ICV - pull it off give it a squirt with some carb cleaner

Second check for vacuum leaks - listen for any hissing, wriggle hoses round see if the idle changes at all

Third AFM - try swap it with another if you have a friend with one you can try.

Could also be the rubber hose going to the throttle body from the airbox. It may be split. This happened with mine, which was split where the hose clip goes.

On the ICV, do you just mean the plug that plugs into it?

No, the actual valve. It gets clogged with sh*t and gives an uneven idle. Cleaning it should improve idle even if its not the thing causing your problem.
