Roshen 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 Hi all, I recently was hit at the trafic lights, the other driver is insured with AMI. They have said to me that its not economical to repair my car and they valued it at $5000. I think thats a bit unfair given that my car CANT be replace at that ammount. so what i need is an independant valuer to come to a more realistic ammount. the car is a NZ new 1989 e30 M325i, i also have 9 years service history. The car is also insured with NZI for a fixed ammount of 10000 (thats 3rd party fire and theft) help needed here, anydody know or is an auto valuer? recent photo of my car :..( fo old times sake... Hi-Tek 3 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 I've had a valuation done by the classic car guy at Turners Auctions ( it was sh*t and way under) I'd suggest contacting the BMW car club here and asking them to do you a valuation.
Nic325i 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 Not sure if they would do valuations, but BM Workshop/other specialists doing a lot of pre-purchase checks must know enough about values to provide some support
kiwi535 538 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 dealer.....will be $$$$ as long as you arent asking for a trade
3 SERIES 93 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 I think most dealers will do a written valuation for somewhere between $50-$
Jeddy 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 I've been looking for someone to do a valuation(insurance purposes) for a while now(all be it not very hard), tried the dealer and they said as they haven't sold the sort of car for almost 20 years they couldn't give me an accurate price and said to call a classic car valuer. I agree that it will definitely be worth your while getting a valuation as it will be 'worth' more than 5k

I am a registered motor vehicle trader, (car dealer) based in Otahuhu, and I will do a written valuation for you for free. You will need to bring me all the details of the car plus some before and after photos Brian. PS you can get me at that number up till 9.00 pm.
CamB 48 Report post Posted January 11, 2009 You are quite right - there is no way that you could buy one for $5k. You just need to prove that I suspect.
rxsumo 33 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Actually I don't think AMI can tell you what the the car is worth, a mate of mine went through this a number of years ago. He was hit by a car that failed to give way at a roundabout, his car was hit in the side hard, enough to bend the car completely out of shape. The car had huge sentimental value to him, and he wanted it repaired regardless of cost. The insurance company wanted to write it off at $2K, he challenged them, and they went to $5K, the total bill ended up being just over $10K. My mate accepted the cheque from the insurance company for the $5K stating that it was accepted as partial payment, and then went the owner in the small claims court for the rest. The court awarded him the rest including a top-up for loss of use awarded by the court (my mate didnt ask for it, the Judge thought that 18 months loss of use should be compensated) Basically if the other person was in the wrong you have the right to have the car restored into the condition it was prior to the accident. Guest Simon* Report post Posted January 12, 2009 That is interesting and useful information. I have my car insured for a sum, but am more aware of the fact that replacing a 540iS is not an easy task - something I tried to impress upon the Insurance company when I bought it. They're very much "Yeah yeah whatever here's your premium" but if anything happened I would be insisting that they either repair or replace it. With less than 250 RHD ones manufactured I'm guessing they'd go for repair!
Guest Spottswoode Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Rear unibody damage to an E30 is usually fatal, as it is notoriously hard to repair that part of the car. How bad is it? Pics? It's not their car to write off, so fight fight fight
