Cale 36 Report post Posted August 10, 2007 (edited) Also interesting that the M20 2.5i and M10 1.8i have the lowest weight per horsepower figures: M20 2.5i=0.68kg bhp and M10 1.8i=0.84kg bhp as opposed to, M20 2.0i=0.97kg bhp and M10 1.6i=0.98kg bhp. (my own calculations, hope im correct) Must mean that more fuel economy and acceleration for the 2.5 and 1.8 (not taking into account the cars net weight). ACS523i 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 Thanks for clearing that up, A friend of mine who considers himself an expert on E39's was telling me year 2000 523i's (In standard trim anyway) has no more power than his 99 520i - the only reason my 2000 ACS 523i blitzes his is because of the schnitzer mods - airbox, exhaust and chip?? By the info you have given a standard 2000 523i has the M54 and would have been 2.5 (184-192bhp standard) vs his 520i 2.2 (170bhp) - I would assume that standard torque figures are higher as well. My BMW mechanic had already told me there was a slight difference in the engine and power between the 99 and 2000 models (dual Vanos), and also said they discontinued the 523i's in 2000 so the M54 powered 523i's are fairly hard to come by - Is this right?? ACS523i 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 So I dug up an old thread ..... is that a fineable offence ???, I did a search on the yr 2000 E39 523i's because there seems to have been an engine change before they got rid of the 523's in 2000. .... Anyone with any information about the yr 2000 523i's and just what they were actually powered by would be great. Whether this being a schnitzer model makes any difference - A chap who was looking to buy it (when i had it for sale) did some background checking on the numbers etc, and it was a german assembled 'schnitzerized' model that was imported privatley to Singapore, (the very last batch of 523i's) - before making it's way here in 2006. My friendly dealer (good bloke) advised me that I should a) keep it, or up my asking price on the back of this - I was going to take $10k in late 2008 ........ obviously i went with option a) and happy I did so. Can anyone confirm that the last 523i's did get the Twin Vanos M54 2500cc motor - or have I got an oddball???
