E39 Headlights: any relation between year and colour?

Recommended Posts

Here's my listing:

I was just wondering... one of the guys commenting on the car asked if it has such indicators/headlights because its really a 2001 model, is there a relation between year and indicator colour? I'm quite confused about it... I've seen quite a few 2003 E39s with orange indicators, it seems to me a larger amount of E39 520is have the clear ones than anything else.

I wouldnt be so sure Nick. I know the e38s there was a single year (2000) that had the crystal rears with orange before moving to clear in 2001.

It could well be the same for the e39 fronts around that time.

Martyn, my comment is in relation specifically to e39 headlights.

What might be the case is after 2001 the base spec came standard with clears and you had to specifically option orange corners if you were that way inclined. There are far to many '01+ e39's around with orange corners, and i'm sure not all of them have had the headlights replaced at some point.

Is this of any help

Good luck typical BMW variations all over the show

Just a note their was a change about Sep /2001 I think when the clears started to be fitted at well but your "M" spec etc had them before this date. It seems to depend on the model spec level etc the owners required it also was different between the various market USA, Europa as before variations all over the place.
