[email protected] 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 (edited) Hey there, My E34 540i has a problem where at around 80-85kms there is a rather violent shake going on, enough so that the interior giggles about including the passenger seat... It becomes less noticeable at 90-100 but is still there, however at 110-120kms is not there. Bellow 85km's its fine though I do fell a vibration under heavyish acceleration at around 30. So far Ive checked the wheel balance. I've ruled out it is to do with the suspension, as you dont feel anything through the front wheels. Just replaced the Flex Disk Guibo, makes for a smoother drive but still the problem is there, just not as bad. Any ideas on what my Issue is? *Glenn* 854 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 (edited) Is the shake through the steering ?? If not...it could be the lock up clutch in the torque convertor. Try it in sports and see if it goes away...or bring it over and let me have a drive... ring me first though...I'm at work now Edited March 12, 2009 by *Glenn*

Any ideas on what my Issue is? make sure your wheels are balanced and not bent,if thats ok then it will be new control arm bushings.(Control arm or thrust arms i can never remmember which ones) but it is a well known e 34 problem area. The e34 m5 or e 32 750 bushings are said to last better than std e 34 ones.It may pay to get new arms otherwise before you know it it will be a knock from the ball joints
Guest Simon* Report post Posted March 12, 2009 I have encountered the same symptoms in two E34's and there were different explanations for each. The most violent wobble was in my 535 after I replaced the wheels with a set off an E39. I hadn't realised at this stage that you require hubcentric or locating rings to fit these wheels onto the E34. Chucked a set on and the problem disappeared immediately. The second time was in the 540 and was evident, but not nearly as bad fairly recently after a wheel balance and alignment. In the end I took it to a specialist alignment place down here who do race cars etc and they fixed it up no problem. Just to add my experience to the mix! Good luck, hope you get it sorted. I know how frustrating it can be.
