sprint_25 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Hey guys, I am new to the forum, I am planning to buy a 520i soon, I have found a 520i with AC Schnitzner kit, the exhaust and body and the chip everything. how safe is to buy a used ACS kit car? I am concerned about the fuel efficiency of the car, can some one tell me how would it perform with ACS kit on it. I love the drive, I am little scared since I am not used to any after market parts for the car. wht you guys reckon?
e30plz 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Hmm, Would think it would be the same as a regular 520i if not better with fuel consumption if it has a chip in it.
tire 10 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Rekon youd get the same consumption from a 528i or a 523i.
RvT 9 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Just one observation ... a 2.0l motor in a larger body heavy car will make the car very sluggish or slow. I assume you have taken it for a drive in which case you may be happy with the "power". A 523 or a 528 would be better IMO. When they came out, the comment at the time is that the owner must be on a real budget not to get the bigger motor. In Singapore they are common as you pay a lot of $ for road user charges on larger cc cars, hence there were a lot of 518 and 520 on the roads there with AC kits on them. sprint_25 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Hey guys, thanks a lot for all those replies. I took it for a test drive the car, I am happy with the power, since I am upgrading from 318CI to this I find this one powerful enough for me. Can you guys tell me what would be the fuel efficiency of a 520i normally? How about the maintenance of the car with ACS stuff on, any ways it comes with warrenty, is there something else should I keep in mind before getting one of these. Thanks in advance guys, your replies gives me lot of confidence to go with the car.

e30plz 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Not that I know of. I'm sure if there is anything to be aware of they will let you know at the inspection. Good luck.
sprint_25 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Thanks guys for all your help. If every thing goes well, will post the pics soon. Any one can throw some light on the fuel consumption of the 520i?
1rotty 40 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 The Schnitzer bits should make your car perform better & they certainly make it look a hell of a lot better. Having the ACS bits is a big plus not a cause for concern Cant help with consumption info sorry-mine are all THIRSTY. PS Welcome to BS

Avenged.SSE 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) facelift (2001+) 520i has a 2.2L engine in it, performance isn't too bad (comparable to a 2.4L Audi A6). My friend has 2001 AC Schnitzer, the fuel consumption on his is horrible (round 16L/100km) but I'll attribute that to his driving style more than anything. Actual fuel consumption should be between 11-13L/100Km (judging by my old 2002 525i). In terms of performance, I think you'd still be better off with something like a 525i/530i. oh and the facelift 520i (from memory) is at least equal to a 523i in terms of performance, even tho there isn't much point in comparison as the 523 and 528 were discontinued when the E39s were facelifted. [Edit] the kit looks goods, but the front spoiler is an absolute bitch due to how low it is, so prepare to drive VERY carefully! In regards to watching out... check the radiator, they are known to go 'boom' when kms near 100k. Edited March 30, 2009 by Avenged.SSE

sprint_25 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 Hi all, I have bought the car now, its amazing to drive, I have been driving a 3 series all these time, now this one for sure gives a better ride. But I have few concerns, thought you guys are best source to advise. I have just one key as of, not even a duplicate key, how much would it cost to make a duplicate key. I see some kind of leakage after driving the car, I guess its water, should this be of a concern to me? Sh

Please post some pictures, we love pictures here at bimmersport. You have to order a key from BMW. They have chips in them meaning that you can't just get one cut down at the mall. About $400 AFAIK, or was atleast when we got one for the e39 540i. Water dripping should just be the air con. Don't worry, but do check where its coming from. The water looks like it comes from the middle of the car, but I should watch it for couple of more days to make sure it is from the same place. I see a Telephone button near the MID, what is that used for?

Avenged.SSE 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2009 Check your car temp, if the water is comming from radiator then that needs attention as radiator needs replacing in these units. Not meaning to be the bearer of bad news, but that doesn't look like an AC Schnitzer E39. it looks to me as if the previous owner has replaced the side mirrors, mags and added an M5 badge... This is what an E39 AC Schnitzer should look like. http://www.cecwheels.com/images/medialibra...-front-view.jpg (note: the side skirts, front spoiler, wheels)
allan 295 Report post Posted April 5, 2009 Sprint hi and welcome to bimmersport. As for things you could do a light up grade to the clean Euro look is a good start. If you can afford it upgrade the low beam to HID/Xenon, if not already. Next change the halo ring bulb to the LED type. How many k's has your's done plus is it an import or NZ. The 39's have a number of issues cooling system, lights and a few others I cannot remember but are nice to drive have fun with it. Cheers Allan
1rotty 40 Report post Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Leakage-air con condensation possibly-no drama if it is Key-dealer & take your bank manager haha EDIT Ooops-should have checked the time-beaten by several hours Well done on the car mate Re alarm: If you have to point your key remote at the noddy nose mounted on the rear view mirror then you have remote central locking but no alarm(infrared) If you can point it any old place then you have an alarm(wireless) Most Asian market beemers do NOT have alarms-must be more honest than us Edited April 5, 2009 by 1rotty

Then temp of the car looks ok, Is there anything else should I check to make sure if its not coming through the radiator?
