Lucan 196 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 its in the forum somewhere, just search "hella"...?? I dont see why it wouldn't be legal, the light beam isn't affected just the plastic behind the lens and infront of the bulb is painted black

Lucan 196 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 yeah I know about as much as a 5year old girl when it comes to cars hahaha Just a hassle after heating up the bulbs you have to pry apart the lens and the bulb..but the sealant on the high beams is like rock hard... So far the competed parts were easy...i come down to Hamilton a bit if you haven't done it by the next time im down i could show you

Guest Ari Gold Report post Posted April 2, 2009 If you didn't build "cross hairs" to make them appear black, then light output is definitely affected and is very dangerous. Heat them slowly in an oven to soften the glue.

Heat them slowly in an oven to soften the glue. yeah the headlights are different to the high beams... i headed them up for a good 20 mins after the initial 8min rccomended time! already made up the cross hairs though but the glue or whatever (cement!!) isn't softening enough
Lucan 196 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 i definitely think they'd pass... http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread...ighlight=smoked ...the link
Cale 36 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Perfectly legal as they don't change amount of light output etc. And as long as you make the sheet metal template and paint them black. I think I have the template somewhere if anyone wants... Be careful of the glass lens when you try to pull the light apart!
Guest FrantiC Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Yeah it's pretty easy. I put the oven to 180C, Set them in there for about 5 - 10 minutes at 180C (I did them one at a time) and once its out use a small flat head screwdriver and try scrape out all the softened glue crap they put around to seal them. Keep digging it out and then it makes it easier to start prying the lens off. First one I did, I chipped abit of the lens but after scraping the glue crap out it popped right off. Make sure you watch them in the oven, Second one I did ended up melting the entire plastic housing of the low beam. So yeah, Just watch them make sure they dont get too hot, and be patient with taking the lens off cos they do chip and crack very easy.
e30plz 1 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 What do you guys use to seal them back up?

Guest FrantiC Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I used RTV silicon. Gotta make sure you seal it properly or else they will fog up on the inside and you have to take the lens off again.
QuickSilver 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I've done it too, I purposely didn't do the high beam because I like just the lows black Their legal, I've been through two wof's with them like that. I re-sealed with Araldite Glue - followed by silicon.

But I too like the look of just the smoked low beams.
